6am 14 degrees, clear sky. Simon and Nat headed off early for a day visit to El Questro.
Walked downstream towards another rocky crossing. Chatted with other campers as we went. Spotted a croc on the other side enjoying the sun’s warmth.
The track turns away from the river where a creek cuts into the bank so we can’t get to the other rock causeway. We followed the track around to another rocky crossing of the creek with great views of the Cockburn Range escarpment.
We turned around and headed back the high track which turned out to be the Karunjie track - the old Bedford stock route that we saw the north end of when we were on the King River Road near Wyndham. That sign just said the road was not maintained but there was a closed gate. The sign says no access here and the gate has been removed.
A Boab and the Cockburn escarpment - The Kimberley icons.
Most people are moving on so at 9am there is only 1 camp further downstream, Simon & Nat and us.
Back to the camper to finish off writing up my blog of our hikes in El Questro.
A few campers came in but otherwise it was a quiet day re traffic.
Nat and Simon had a great day exploring and we chatted over drinks around the fire as the sun set. Still no barra - just a catfish.
Just on dusk a Jabiru landed near the crossing and walked around flapping its wings to excite the mullet so he could have dinner. Sadly to dark to take a photo of him but it was wonderful to watch.
