6.30am 19 degrees - lovely. Clear blue sky - a day late! Cool breeze.
Packed up and were on the road by 7.30am.
The grader is working again so we had to stay on one side. We stopped to check on a couple who had crossed over the ‘hump’ when another vehicle came and hit a rock in the middle and broke his exhaust. He was ok to fix it up so we continued on.
Met the grader just before the climb to Lawley Hill, one car was stuck behind him. We stopped and let him crawl past us.
9.30am we turned into Munurru (King Edward River) Campground. We drove around to the day use area and had a cuppa. Put on our boots and walked to the river.
The walk was easy over the slab rock. There is even stairs to get in and out of the swimming area. Unfortunately the camp sites are further downstream so it is a bit of walk to get here.
Continued along the smooth rocks. Lots of holes where the rocks have tumbled around when it is in flood. Reached the waterfall area.
Steve found a deep hole.
Selfie time at the waterfall.
Downstream then back around to the waterfall.
Steve found a perfect bath tub - complete with drain hole.
Lovely smooth rock glistens in the sunshine. Looks redder through my sunglasses.
Back to the truck then back out to the track and across the river again.
Out to the Kalumburu Road and headed south to Drysdale River. About 10 vans passed us heading north.
Nice spot here for lunch. Phone reception from the station works here so sent off some photos and texts to the family. Sent one to Rebecca to say we had made it to Mitchell Falls and I will send her some comparison photos later. More vehicles crossed over heading north.
Just after 2pm we crossing the Gibb River for the last time. We had hoped to get a spot on the rocky area where everyone swims but it was full up. Went back to where we had been before but closer to the crossing this time so nicer water views!
The vehicles keep coming up and a heap headed south too.
I wrote up some of my blog while Steve collected some firewood. Sky is still lovely and clear but I think the temperature is going to be cooler tonight by the feel of the breeze already.
It was lovely sitting by the fire though the temp dropped quickly. We have the soothing sound of running water again as the river falls over the edge of the causeway. Steve spotted one satellite through the leaves as it zoomed past the moon which is just a sliver. The motorbike frogs have got their engines going.
Into the camper for dinner as it is quite chilly now. Heard the curlews calling - still can’t see how people think it is a baby or someone being murdered!
Put the TV up and watched a movie. Got out our knee blankets as the temp dropped to 17 degrees.
