Overcast, cold and windy this morning so didn’t rush about getting up. Topped up the water tanks and got the gas bottle refilled then said thanks again to Sue before we headed out. Put some more air in the tyres too.
Grabbed a few fresh fruit and vegies etc then filled up with diesel. Luckily the phone service was working enough to get the payment done at the card place which is the cheapest but in a week it has gone up from $2.049 to $2.199. A couple pulled in who we had soaked with at Zebedee Springs and thanked us for the advise about the walks which they enjoyed.
The phone service though wasn’t good enough to do any uploads so will have to do that somewhere else one day.
Drove out to Swim Beach for a cuppa - rough water with the cold wind this morning.
10.45am back on the road for Take 2 of the Gibb River Road. Blue sky ahead of us.
No need to stop for photos etc so we just kept driving and then stopped for lunch at the Pentecost River. The road works have moved along in the week. Steve dropped the tyre pressures down then we set off again.
As we got to the other side a vehicle stopped to say hi as they had been at the Gibb River and heard about our problem. Fancy that.
A bit further along we stopped to check on a couple with a flat tyre on their van but they had it under control.
Bit of cloud coming across again. We saw a tow truck coming and it was Craig doing another pick up from Ellenbrae Station so we tooted and waved and he called over the UHF to have a good trip. We hope we see them travelling somewhere - just not with a tow truck.
More traffic on the road this time. Passed a couple of cars that waved us through then we got stuck behind one vehicle. We pulled over at the Durack River to have a cuppa to let the other car get further along. Unfortunately we caught up to him again. At one point he pulled over with his blinker on then abruptly turned back onto the road as we approached so we were stuck behind him again.
Turned onto Kalumburu Road and then back to the Gibb River crossing - 289km.
Drove into where we camped the first night and stopped on an angle to check out another spot to park. Steve noticed water pouring out the back door!! The water tank inside must have leaked. I climbed in and swept out the bulk then we parked up and started the clean up. Obviously this place doesn’t like us or something.
We got out the buckets and drained the tank into them so no more can leak onto the floor. We had lost 40 litres but still have 60 litres in the buckets to use up. Luckily we have the 3 tanks under the truck to keep us going.
Because Steve didn’t use any timber there is nothing to swell except my new rolls of paper towel! Everything else is in plastic boxes so it was just a matter of drying out the towels, non-slip mats etc so we hung them all up for the night. Daniel won’t be happy to hear his welding has let go as he always does a great job but until we can pull it out we won’t know exactly where the leak is.
We sat outside as the sun started to set and had our drinks. The young lad from the van next door was using ropes to practice his whip cracking - doing a great job too. His parents came over for a chat. The Wandering Walshs etc pulled in nearby so Steve said hi again and caught up on what they have been doing.
The floor is dry so just need to dry under the kitchen cupboard tomorrow and let is all dry for the day before putting everything back. At the shower was filled with 4 buckets of water we just had a sponge bath tonight!
