Tues, 26th July, 2022 Bush camp by Telegraph Pool, Fitzroy River to Bush camp at Quondong Point, Dampier Peninsula, WA

6.30am 17 degrees again and still windy.

Packed up and headed out. Drove into where the old crossing was. The old photos of the crossing off the sign.

Looks like someone has built it up a bit - maybe the sand miner.

Looking downstream then upstream.

Here’s the pile of sand. There is a loader on the other side but the sand has been here a while by the size of the tree growing on it.

Back out through the gates then onto the Great Northern Highway again heading westward. Very pretty at the moment with all the yellow blooms of the wattles.

Then it changed back to grass, trees and anthills for a while then the wattles were back.

Came to the intersection where the Great Northern heads south so we continued straight on - and it is straight, on the Broome Highway.

Around to Cable Beach for a cuppa.

Certainly a lot busier then our last visit in April.

Rang Cheryl and Gary and got their location so we can join them for a couple of days.

Into town for a few bits and pieces and top up the fuel again - $2.49/L.

Drove down Hammersley Road that we walked down in April. Found a park at Town Beach and had lunch overlooking Roebuck Bay.

I uploaded my blog, facebook updates and emails etc while we had good phone reception.

Watched this chap with his ‘cool’ boat ‘drive’ down to the water.

Headed out of town and then up the Cape Leveque Road where they are putting in a big roundabout. The road north up the Dampier Peninsula is all bitumen now - was known for being very rough. We saw photos though after the wet that had washed out a section of the bitumen as the water roared down the side of the road.

Turned off the bitumen onto Manari Road which is a wide sandy corrugated road and has been graded down and down that the side walls are very high. There is no room to pull off if you broke down here!

Passed the turn off to Willie Creek - there is free camping there too then Barred Creek - will check them out later. Crested a rise and got our first view of the Indian Ocean.

Found where Cheryl and Gary were camped and they made a space for us to park up. There is a family beside them (they are moving on tomorrow) and a chap out on the cliff edge.

Cheryl and Gary have a great position with view and shade and a good campfire spot. The tide is out at the moment.

Cute little flowers and plenty of the purple flowers everywhere.

We made a cuppa and chatted the afternoon away. We even spotted a few whales - you could see their humps and the water shooting up from the spouts. Amazing. Beautiful sunset - of course. Drinks turned into dinner around the fire. The breeze is very cool so had to put our jumpers on.

Kept the camper closed up so it was nice inside. It is lovely listening to the waves roll in though they crash a lot on the rocks which changes the sound all the time.
