Tues, 28th June, 2022 Ivanhoe Village Caravan Resort, Kununurra, WA (Truck repaired)

Warmer night, 6.30am 20 degrees. Cloudy and breezy. Our spot in the park’s overflow area.

I got onto Club 4x4 and put in a claim. As we had already paid the towing company they will just refund us ($3756) less the excess which is $200 for the first $1500 then 5% of the claim after that so another $100 or so. Also that is it for cover now till Dec when our renewal is so if we get bogged or broken down again we have no recovery cover at all but if in an accident we are covered. So much for paying the extra for $15,000 cover - we thought we had that much to claim over the year! So no getting bogged etc Mr Geck!

Steve rang one mechanical place but he was flat out but said he would try to send someone around with a scan tool. We tried another one and he said he was booked out till August! Steve explained the issue of not being about to get the truck to him etc and he (Dustin) said he would talk to his foreman if he could drop in when he was out and about. We rang the other chap back to let him know and waited for the chap to drop in. Shortly after the mechanic, Josh, rang and said he would come around. Wonderful. After chatting with Steve for a moment he said he knew what the problem was. When Steve had said there was a glow plug light he asked about the engine light and Steve couldn’t remember seeing it come on either. He started pulling the dash apart and exposed four relays hidden in there which control the ECU, air conditioner fan and whatever else. He swapped two around and started the truck - what a wonderful noise. He should how to take off the cap of the relay and said to just push the points together until we can get a new one. The scan tool works now too. Put the ‘faulty’ relay back in to the air conditioner one and it worked and the scan tool was now not showing any problems. Maybe when he swapped them the ECU reset itself. Anyway we are just happy to be going.

Steve got out the manual for the truck but there is nothing in there about those relays. Well he knows all about them now. He went for a walk to see if he could buy spare relays and ended up at Dustin’s workshop and he found two so Steve bought both of them. Steve thanked him again for sending Josh around so promptly. Hats off to Kununurra 4WD Spares for great service.

Now with joy in our voices we chatted with friends etc to pass the day. I rang Rebecca forgetting she and Clive were in NZ so we had a short chat and I wished her a happy birthday for the 30th.

Unfortunately Telstra is having issues with a tower or something and their service is hit and miss today so I could barely upload one day on the blog and a few photos on Facebook. Lots of catching up to do when we get good phone service again.

Walked over to Craig and Sue’s van for a drink to say thanks but Craig wasn’t back yet from another long drive along the Gibb to rescue some more pool souls. We chatted with Sue till he arrived then left him to relax with his dinner after another big day driving.
