Thurs, 30th June, 2022 Bush camp by Gibb River, Kalumburu Road, WA

Slept in. The other couple packed up early and headed off to Mitchell Falls. We will use today to make sure everything is dry.

Rebecca’s birthday today.

Wandering Walshs moved into the vacant spot and we chatted about travelling etc. They certainly Mitchell Falls is a must see and to take the helicopter flight which we had intended to do on the way out. They went further up to check out Walsh’s Point - because of their name. They hadn’t intended to go fishing but some guys invited them out for a fish and they caught heaps. The mozzies were pretty bad though. They checked out Surveyors Pool too but it only had a small pool of water left so for the bumpy ride in it wasn’t worth it. The grader had started on the road into Mitchell Falls too and they noticed a big difference from when they had driven in. We might be lucky there.

Nice sunshine to get things dry which was good though my paper towel might be a throw away. Steve suggested putting it in a bag and using it as wet ones. Good idea, so I did that but left the other 3 out to try and dry out. I only use them for wiping excess off plates, frypan etc to make washing up cleaner.

At lunch the clouds have come over making it feel quite cool but I got everything dry. Put everything back. Steve put two drums of water in one of the outside cupboards that we can pump into the other tank as we need it.

Steve collected a heap of firewood. He checked the truck and camper over again just to be sure nothing else can go wrong but you just never know. I hope not.

Relaxed reading our books overlooking the water. The sky had darkened and it is quite cool. The others joined us around the fire and we chatted into the evening. After dinner Penny cooked some scones so I brought out my Rosella jam for them to try. Penny was keen to find out more on how to make it. Unfortunately the flowers are at the end now and are hard and the seeds have dried out so probably wouldn’t be any good to make jam with.

Finished off my bottle of Grandfather’s port Steve had given me for Christmas 2020 - tried to make it last forever. Lovely evening chatting till a few spots of rain fell so we all headed into bed.
