Thurs, 9th Apr, 2015 Policemans Point, Bay of Fires Conservation Area to Musselroe Bay Camping Area

15 degrees at 7.30 am and overcast again, though the wind has stopped which is nice. The water is so flat, such a contrast to yesterday.

Said bye to Anita and Noel as they were heading off early to St Helens for the day. We packed up and headed back to the main road. Saw our first Forester Kangaroo – quite large.

Back through the flat farmland – no smoke haze today so we can see The Blue Tiers and Mt Cameron.

Turned off and headed north east to Musselroe Bay. Lots of Black Angus cattle here and a few tree farms.

Found a nice spot with easy access down to the water in the bay which is to the west of Musselroe Point.

You can see the new Wind Farm to the west.

Looking to the mouth of the bay where all the boats are moored.

Around to the left and the bay continues around the bend along way, according to the map.

Zoomed in on Mount Cameron in the distance.

Went for a drive and found the boat ramp where all the boats are moored. Looking out the mouth.

Drove around looking at the houses – some very nice ones and others are just beach shacks. Down a road we came to the beach on the other side of this narrow bit of land. Looking to Musselroe Point.

Looking south to Cape Naturaliste.

In the distant is Cape Barren Island which is part of the Furneaux group of islands. Out from the beach are lots of rocks in the sea, the waves are breaking over them. Mick said you have to know what you are doing when travelling by boat in this area.

Across from where we are camped is the Mount William National Park which runs down the east coast to Ansons Bay. We drove the 3km to Top Camp and the beach. You have to pay to camp here but the box had a sign it was out of order – apparently it has been broken into etc so you have to drive all the way back to Gladstone to pay the camping fee!!! Hence we are staying in the free camp area. This is Cape Naturaliste area.

Lots of rocky outcrops around here.

In the distance I could see a lighthouse, could just get it on the camera – it is on Swan Island to the north.

Huge cuttlefish – should post it home to Charlie.

Looking north to Musselroe Point.

Nice day as it isn’t blowing a gale but there are lots of heavy clouds out to sea. The sky is clear in the other direction though.

Back to the van for lunch. The sun has come out so we decided to do the washing. Steve checked the truck over. After a cuppa we headed down to the water to try and catch a fish. It is very wide here and hard to see where the fish would be!!! Throw out our lines and waited. A seagull swam by then stood up – we are fishing in very shallow water!!!

Moved up further where the boats are moored as we figured it would be deeper. Still no fish.

Back to the van and I did some uploads of my blog while Steve got the fire ready. Beautiful sunset over the water of the bay. Smoke haze gives it great colour.
Nice evening by the fire listening to a little mouse scurry around in the long grass and the waves crashing on the beach in the distance.
