Mon, 28th Mar, 2016 Margaret & Gary’s, Walkerville, SA (cruising Gulf St Vincent)

Easter Monday. 7am 17 degrees and overcast. Steve headed off with Gary to get their sailing catamaran. I put a roast in the Ecopot for dinner.

Met their friends John and Jane. John had travelled with Gary to Singapore to pick up the cat and they had an amazing journey bringing it back to Adelaide. Steve was helping with the ropes etc.

Gary at the helm.

Good sized runabout too.

As we motored out of the Yacht Club area we passed the P&O Pacific Eden at the wharf. We saw her moored of Penneshaw.

Margaret gave me a tour – plenty of room in the lounge/galley.

One of the cabins – nice and roomy.

Out into the Gulf they raised the mainsail.

Margaret showed her skills in rolling up a rope.

A bit more wind about so they raised the next sail – the Jib, I think.

John said to go out the front and lay on the net for a photo of the sails. Bit weird having the water rushing underneath me.

Looking out the front. Very interesting working out where all the ropes go.

Not the nicest morning but it is wonderful to be out on the water. Cruising past Semaphore.

Mt Lofty in the distance and the Adelaide Hills.

Great little seat out the front. Bit chilly though so on with the big coat.

The wind has stopped so they wound in the jib.

The planes are taking off over the beaches.

Now passing Glenelg.

Out with the jib again as we headed further down the Gulf.

Then the wind dropped again so we dropped anchor and had lunch. We feel like royalty.

The water is so clear and the sun is starting to come out. I had brought my togs but it is still a bit cool for me to have a dip.

Found out it was Margaret and Gary’s 35th wedding anniversary today so out with the champagne to celebrate.

Steve is dreaming of when he finds that big nugget!!

We have warmed up in the sun which is shimmering on the Gulf.

Headed off again back up the Gulf again. She rides so nicely – hardly know we are on the water.

Zoomed in on Mt Lofty – you can see the big white monument on the left.

Nice clouds.

Margaret said these are old terrace houses – I think that was Henley Beach.

This is Escort House which was owned by the hospital and used as a respite centre. Now it is privately owned. When Margaret was young they used to holiday in little shacks on the beach near it, but they have all been removed now.

Back to Semaphore and the Kite Festival is under way. It was amazing – there were so many and of all shapes and sizes.

The Pacific Eden is heading off. On Gary’s radar thing it says that it is leaving for Melbourne.

Nearly back to the Yacht Club which is near a big shipping container loading dock.

What a cute little boat.

Back to the dock and time for a wash down. Great name, Zangezi.

Obviously they didn’t have a good day, getting towed back in by a little boat!!

Back home Margaret and I got some roast vegies happening. Aimee and her boyfriend were home from holidaying in the Grampians and Liam was home too. Great dinner chatting and laughing then Steve looked grey and excused himself. He headed off to bed not feeling too good. We thought dehydration – not that we had been hot but he doesn’t drink much water!! Maybe it was delayed sea-sickness – not that it was rough but he had been into the blue cheese etc.

He was asleep when I got back to the van so that was good.
