8th to 14th Sept, 2023 Jon & Annalise’s place, Cairns, Qld

Fri, 8th

More misty rain.

I sent off an email to DCA for a new injector pump. They replied that they would send it but not till Monday as they were at a 4x4 show in Sydney. Oh well, what’s a few more days! I dropped Steve down to Fozzies - we were too quick giving Brian back the ute!

Steve managed to get the truck around to Dan’s work so he could make up the last bit Steve needed. He made a cover for the radiator and modified the outlet pipe on the turbo and welded two lugs on the pipe so Steve can attached the air conditioner pipework to it. So thankful for our talented son.

Steve mentioned that Steve and Michelle liked my fudgie wudgie biscuits so I did another batch for them and some banana patty cakes and dropped them down for morning tea.

Heavier shower of rain but then it cleared up again.

After lunch I went line dancing - brighter afternoon.

Steve home early (4pm) so we joined Jon & Annalise for drinks on the patio for a change.

Sat, 9th

Clear sky so got my sheets into the washing machine as the forecast is for rain all week.

Steve took the car back to do a few other jobs on the truck.

Annalise & I went for a drive to pick up a bassinet and stand someone had for sale. Very nice and it is portable too.

I started on the cross stitches for the two bubs.

Shower of rain in the late afternoon after a lovely sunny day.

Met Suzanne at a small Thai restaurant that she has been to before. Very popular too and the food was great. Will definitely go there again.

Sun, 10th

Sent texts to Louis and Ian who celebrate birthdays today.

No work to be done on the truck today so we pottered about tidying up and packing a few things away ready for when we are able to hit the road again!

I continued cross stitching - will need all this time as they are bit more work then I first thought.

Went for a long walk along the Esplanade in the afternoon. Cloudy so it was nice and cool.

Mon, 11th

Overcast day. Dropped Steve down to Fozzies to do a few jobs and help Fozzie out in repayment for all his help. I did some shopping. Showers of rain on and off.

Jon & Annalise’s official marriage certificate arrived. Times have changed in the wording too - no more Bachelor or Spinster, now Not Validly Married. No Mother or Father, now Parent 1 and Parent 2 and no maiden name of the mother so another avenue for family tree research is lost. No date of birth, just age when married. Now birth certificates no longer have what the sex of the baby is so that makes doing family trees hard with all the unusual names too.

Windy day.

Last drinks with Jon before he flies back to work tomorrow.

Tues, 12th

Windy morning, cloudy but the sun peaks through every now and then.

I dropped Steve off again as he still has a few things to tidy up and to give Fozzie a hand too since the truck is still in his workshop!

I joined the girls at Tuckshop for a cuppa and gave them a hand for a couple of hours. School holidays next week so won’t see them till next visit.

Fran sent through the scan of their little one, 12 weeks today. Won’t find out the sex till the 18 week scan.

Still very windy which is keeping the temperature down with the cloudy day too.

Rang Terry. All good, had a great time at the latest caravan rally. Off to Maleny for Merv’s 80th birthday this weekend.

Heavy rain at dinner time.

Wed, 13th

More rain overnight and windy though there is blue sky appearing between the clouds.

Dropped Steve down to the truck then I worked on the babies cross stitch. The injector pump arrived from DCA which was great so I whizzed it down to Steve.

After lunch I went line dancing then rang Steve to see how things were going. Not a quick changeover apparently and this one is different to the one on it so he had to go buy bits to connect it - really!! Lucky Steve is such a calm and patient man - it has been so frustrating for him.

Very windy day. Annalise and I played Skipbo during drinks. Steve and Fozzie kept working till late and when Fozzie dropped him off it was a sad face on Steve - the new pump made no difference. Tomorrow they will go back to square one and check everything again regarding fuel lines etc.

Thurs, 14th

Sent off birthday wishes to Kaylene and Alexander. We will have a birthday dinner with Kaylene on Sunday since she is away. It is also 6 months since Erica left us and would have been their 66th wedding anniversary. Sadly we got news of friend we made while travelling, Marion, passed away last night. Our heart goes out to Michael and all their family.

Dropped Steve off again to fight the battle with the engine.

I went line dancing again - have had a ball with all the ladies and it is great fun and exercise too. Joined the original line dance girls for lunch with Wendy.

Steve rang to say they think they found the problem. First they tried pumping fuel in via a jerry can in case it was something to do with the fuel tank and pick up but that made no different. Fozzie wanted him to pull out the injectors too so they took off the tappet cover and found two of the injector spears that go through the head and locate on the injector were not tight enough and were allowing excess fuel to bleed off which was then causing the low rail pressure at idle which was making it stall. He tightened them all up and then started it up and it went for a while without stalling. Put everything back and went for a drive and it was all good - yeah. What a relief.

I went down after lunch to send off a long email to DCA letting them know what had happened. We will call into their workshop in Sydney when we get down their for Bathurst.

We are so thankful to Fozzie for helping out and allowing the truck to take up space in this fabulous workshop.

Still very windy day but no rain and more sun than clouds today.

We will go for a long drive across the Tablelands tomorrow to make sure all is good and catch up with friends and family too. Will also see Michael who kindly came down to give Steve a hand as he has been battling with a Cummins engine too.

Cooked one of Steve’s favourite dishes for dinner to celebrate.
