Sun, 19th Apr, 2015 Pyengana Recreation Ground to Swimcart Beach Campground, Bay of Fires Conservation Area (via St Helens)

Beautiful morning though very chilly, 7.5 degrees at 8am with clear sky and no wind. The dairy cows are back again.

We slowly packed up and then enjoyed the sunshine outside having a cuppa watching the cows chomp away – and a few other things they do naturally!! One girl will need her teats washed very well!!

Headed off after popping our donation in the box. Through green pastures then into drier scrub with sandy soil as we near St Helens. Big drive today, 23 km. First view of Georges Bay and St Helens.

Missed the Recreation Ground so had to do the drive into St Helens then back again. It says campervan and motorhomes only but we will drop off the van and go for a drive around. Headed through the town and then around Georges Bay. Lovely and clear.

As we headed out to St Helens Point I got a great shot of the mouth of the bay.

Stopped at the boat ramp at the end of the road at Burns Bay.

Good map.

There was a half hour walk around to Beerbarrel Beach via the point so we headed off through the low scrub.

Into banksia tree area.

Looking back to the mouth.

Then across to Elephant Rock off Grants Point.

Around to St Helens Point.

Climbed up the big rock for a better view though the wind nearly blew me off.

Looking across Elephant Rock to Binalong Bay and where we are going to camp at Swimcart Beach.

We didn’t make it to any beach, just rocks so headed back. Back to the truck and turned off at a sign for Beerbarrel Beach. Not much beach.

Stopped at a crest for a view over St Helens Island and the mountains in the distance then over Maurouard Beach and the Peron Dunes with St Helens and Georges Bay behind the dunes.

Back to the main road and looking back to the narrow neck of the mouth again and Blanche Beach.

The manmade wall is called at ‘Training Wall’.

Tried ringing Kerry and Glenda but no answer. Got our groceries and headed off to Swimcart Beach.

Steve thinks this is a great spot. Tucked into the bush for a bit of wind protection but still with great views of the ocean and only a short walk down to the beach. Will sleep well with the sound of the waves tonight.

Zoomed south back on the other side of Elephant Rock.

There was a line of birds just floating in the sea. They didn’t seem to be diving for bait, just floating there.

Zoomed north on an unusual looking rock – looked like a ship’s sail.

Looking across to Binalong Bay.

All the birds that were floating just took off together heading out to sea.

Cooked yummy Tuscan Meatballs for dinner and got the heater out. Going to be a bit cool here with the lovely clear sky. I was hoping it might be warmer by the sea!!

Lovely listening to the waves roll in though and I have a great view out my bedroom window to watch the sunrise in the morning.
