Cold
and miserable morning, 20 degrees in van but with the wind blowing feels a lot
colder outside. Decided not to worry about the other sprintcar meeting tonight.
Steve helped the others with the cars while I worked on my blog – gotten
behind.
After
lunch we drove into Warrnambool to fuel up and go to Rays to spend some of our
credit we got after buying the Hema Navigator. Got some butane cylinders and
hooks and sinkers then decided to check out handheld GPS’s for when he is
detecting. Bought a simple Garmin one so used all the credit but then we will
have new credit from this purchase – got 3 months to use it so all good.
Nice
entrance to town with all the pine trees down the centre.
Programmed
our Hema Navigator who we are calling Kate to find a park so we can top up with
water. Had a laugh when she ticked Steve off for speeding!! Ended up beside the
Hopkins River.
Tide
is in. Looking towards Proudfoot’s Historical Boathouse which was opened in
1885. Lots to explore around here when we come back one day.
Nice
the nicest day for sightseeing it was very windy with heavy clouds but decided
to drive down to the coast. Crossed over the bridge to Blue Hole – info about
whale watching and walks from here. Doesn’t look like the water gets to the
ocean.
Drove
back over the bridge then up the hill and to Point Ritchie – looking back over
the bridge.
A
plaque about a wrecked whaling boat in 1836.
Out
onto the platform looking over Blue Hole where hundreds of short finned eels
congregate waiting for the rains in autumn to push the river into the sea so
they can migrate.
Looking
west to Warrnambool – you can see the line of pine trees on the main highway
into town.
Steve
thought the rock looked like a Scottish Terrier dragging itself along the sand.
The
rocky cliff has a great cave.
Back
past the Speedway to Terang to join Glen, Shelley and Helen for dinner as the
others had gone to speedway.
Quiet
night chatting.
