Fri, 1st Jan, 2016 Apex Van Park, Terang (Warrnambool Speedway)

The wind has come up and clouds are coming over. Quiet morning as the cars are all ready to go. The mantra is ‘One Job Racing’ as the guys get ready – do one job well.

Into Warrnambool Speedway early so Col could get a good spot to show of the clean shiny truck and trailer – ha ha. Trying to be like the big Sprintcar rigs. They even have little cars to push them around. The sprintcars are racing in the World Series so should be good.

Lexi and I took the chairs up to get our spot. Certainly a fancier speedway compared to the other ones we have been to.

I found Gavin Casey’s name in the program still holding a track record here.

An announcement came over saying all chairs on the hills need to be removed. Apparently we can’t put them up till the main gates open at 3pm.

Steve told me to find No. 13 sprintcar as it was sponsored by Woodgate Beach Tourist Park. Chatted with one of the mechanics and he said the driver’s dad worked there and they kept the sponsorship going even though the driver has moved to Adelaide.

And they say there is no money around – and this is just a sport!!

I grabbed the chairs and blankets and stood with the others at the pit gate for the security guard to open it. The front people saw others walking in from the main gates and pushed open the gate saying ‘how come they are getting in’. The security guard said we had to wait till 3 but they started in so he let them go – I just followed. Got my spot again up at the back.

They even have been screens here.

Now it is starting to rain – I had an umbrella but it wasn’t heavy and moved on quickly. The fans are pouring in.

The lady beside me said her husband raced Formulas and now their son is. I said we were from Cairns and she said they were there when we held the Australian Titles. Told Steve and he remembered Darren Disbury and chatted with him in the pits. Formulas heading onto the track.

The sun trying to peek through the clouds. Can’t believe we have worn jeans and two coats and our beanies so much in December/January!!

Glen didn’t make it straight into Amain so he will start on pole from Bmain. Lexi is 13th in the Amain. Glen made it through and ended up getting 12th and Lexi 18th in the Amain.

The Sprintcars were loud and fast and they even had fireworks for the Amain.

Very late meeting and then it was ages before we could get out with the truck. Luckily we just have to sit in the back and let Col do all the driving - thanks Col.
