7am
25 degrees which is nice. The ferry is back and forth across the river
constantly and the boom boom of the bird scaring guns are going off over the
orchards.
Waved
bye to the others and headed off. Followed the back road around Gurra Gurra
Wetlands till it joined Bookpurnong Road south of Lock 4. Turned off at the
huge water tower and down the side of the limestone cliffs to the wetlands
(which are dry and used as part of the salt removal program) to the Murray
River and Thiele’s Sandbar. A few other campers here getting ready for
Australia Day weekend.
We
drove further downstream looking at the campsites. The water pumps and cliffs
below Loxton.
Decided
on one under the trees with a nice sandy area for swimming. Steve put up the
shower too.
I
rang Rochelle as they started back selling uniforms this week – don’t miss
working but miss their friendship and the fun we had ‘working’.
Nice
breeze blowing today so I worked on my blog – lots of photos and videos to go
through. Erica had said last night that I should write articles for the caravan
magazines so I decided to send off an email to see if they are interested.
The
sun will set on the other side of the river so it is good to have the shower in
the shade so we can get wet without having to be in the sun. 41 degrees in the
van at lunch.
About
3pm the wind picked up and the dark clouds moved in with a couple of drops of
rain. At least the clouds blocked the glaring sun so we could go for a swim. A
few ski boats zooming up and down – the river is a lot narrower here.
Clive
and Rebecca rang for a chat – watched some parrots fly in for a drink then some
kangaroos came down to drink on the other bank while we chatted.
7pm
and it is still 40 degrees in the van – leftovers for dinner so that was easy.
Watched
TV drive-in style which kept us cool. 11pm it was 35 degrees.
