Fri, 15th Dec, 2017 Silver Sands Resort, Mandurah to Pullman Resort, Bunker Bay (Cape Naturaliste), WA (sightseeing)

Another glorious morning. Packed up and loaded the gear and Steve into the back of the truck. Dropped him off at Bob and Margaret’s then we headed south for the weekend at Pullman Resort at Bunker Bay.

Followed the Old Coast Road down around the Peel and Harvey Estuaries. Turned off towards the coast to check out the Thrombolites at Lake Clifton.

Continued on to Bunbury. Drove in to the top end of Leschenault Estuary. The wind has come up chopping up the water so not so nice for a photo. Stopped for a cuppa then decided to continue on to Busselton.

Still a bit windy here but got some nice photos of the 1.841km jetty. Checked out the gift shop but gave the long walk along the jetty a skip. I said to Kaylene, she can bring Rick back here and take the train out along the jetty.

Found a big Christmas tree and the huge Fig tree on the Esplanade.

Last year the old railway station (which they moved here near the jetty) was being refurbished when we were here last year and it is all finished now so we went in for a look.

Continued along Caves Road to Dunsborough – stopped at the beach for a look. Very shallow here and calm as it is sheltered from the wind by the Cape Naturaliste point.

Stopped for a pie from the ‘famous’ Dunsborough Bakery – it was very good. Checked out a few shops.

Turned onto the Meelup Beach Road and stopped at the Lookout for a lovely view over Castle Rock and bay. Steve and I explored all this area last year.

Stopped at Meelup Beach for a walk and to get Kaylene’s feet in the Indian Ocean.

Good map showing the area – we will be staying in the resort at Bunker Bay (at the top).

Continued on to Eagle Bay.

On to our home for the next two nights at Pullman Resort. Kaylene had booked a one bedroom unit with 2 single beds (hence we didn’t bring Steve) but we were pleasantly surprised to learn we had been upgraded to a two bedroom villa.

‘Shane’ collected us and our gear in a golf buggy and dropped us off at our villa. Very nice. I got the single bed this time as we had it in the other unit.

Time for a drink.

Went for a wander to check out the resort – lovely pool but no spa or sauna.

Continued down the hill to the lakeside villas.

Across the bridge to the beach.

Off with the shoes for a paddle in the water. Bit chilly but fine for my tootsies.

Kaylene is impressed with the beautiful beaches so far.

Continued to the end where the rocks were. Bit more seagrass up this end.

I had read there could be seals at Shelly Beach so we headed around the track for a look. No seals but it looks lovely.

On the other side is Point Marchant.

Headed back as the sun was dropping and getting a bit cool. Nice ‘sand’ photo.

Walked up to the main area of the resort. Nice view and the chairs are comfy too.

Checked out the menu. We decided to book into the fancy part of the Other Side of the Moon Restaurant for tomorrow night as we had food to cook for tonight.

Checked the weather forecast – looks like we will do our sightseeing tomorrow as rain is predicted for Sunday.

The sun is due to set at 7.20 so we headed across the point to Sugarloaf Rock to watch the sun set. Chatted with a chap who was a teacher at Smithfield High – small world.

The wind was freezing and very strong – lucky we brought jumpers. I was flat out holding onto my camera to zoom in on the lighthouse at Cape Naturaliste.

The low cloud band was present but we enjoyed a lovely sunset – even though we were shivering.

Back to the resort. Mr Rabbit was hopping about as we headed back to our villa.

Cooked some dinner. Kaylene tried out the spa but it wouldn't start then after the water started to go cold it started then she couldn't get it stopped. Rang reception and a girl came around to shut it down - don't think I will have a spa then!!
