Sun, 18th Feb, 2024 Railton Self Contained RV Park, Railton to Malcolm & Kerry’s place, Westbury, Tas (Deloraine Car Show)

11 degrees min and only 13 degrees at 8am but there is a clear sky and the sun is shining so it won’t take long to warm up.

The MMs headed off early to meet their son and his family for a couple of weeks touring with them.

Lazy morning for us. Malcolm rang to see what time we were arriving as Sophie & Nathan are having a ‘house warming’ BBQ and we are invited.

Cute use of jeans on the fence opposite the park.

Went looking for the Topiary Garden but went the wrong way. Found a sign about the tramway line which is now a bike trail.

Drove around to the Topiary Garden. It looks like the ones we saw in 2015 have died off but there are some new ones being created.

On the corner was a great mural about the old cement works here.

Headed back to Deloraine. Saw signs advertising a car show on today as we neared and there are plenty of cars lining the roads - some very nice ones. We followed the detour - the main road is closed off. Lovely hotel, est 1848.

We went across the bridge to the RV Rest Area and parked there. Had lunch then walked back across the suspension bridge. Lots of motorbikes on the corner and then we wandered up and down a couple of roads checking out all the cars on display. So many different types.

Love the tractor and van, complete with fireplace.

Found a Ford Capri like Steve raced at speedway, a ute like his ‘Henry’ Ford.

It was $10 each to wander up the main street to check out the main display but we didn’t go as we had seen so much already. I picked up a nice house warming present.

On the way back to the bridge we spotted this one.

Back across the suspension bridge. Watched some girls jumping off the old rail bridge.

Back to the camper then along to Malcolm & Kerry’s again in Westbury. New parking spot as the shearer is here shearing the sheep. Dropped off the camper so we can go into Launceston tomorrow to get the other 4 new rims put on.

Went around to check out the shearing - I had helped pick up the fleece etc when we were here in 2015. Good Marino wool (6kg fleece) - a back breaking job being a shearer.

Helped Malcolm guide the sheep back to the dam paddock by blocking the road so he could guide them down.

Warmed up today - got to 33 degrees in the camper! Summer has arrived.

Went with Kerry and Malcolm to Bracknell for dinner at Sophie & Nathan. They have a lovely home and a roomy block of land. They loved our gift.

Had a great time chatting on their patio. Nice to sit in the shade as the sun is very hot but as soon as it started to drop the cold breeze picked up. Lucky I brought a jumper.

Back home at 9pm through the twilight sky.
