Mon, 16th May, 2016 Bush camp, 14km SE of Meekatharra to Bush camp, 38km SE of Meekatharra, WA

21 months on the road today. 7.30am 17 degrees with gusty SE wind flapping the awning and a clear blue sky. Packed up and headed back to the Meeka-Sandstone Road and headed south 20km or so.

Yogahong Hill stands out.

Crossed over the continuation of the Vermin Proof Fence. We are looking at the section heading west back to where we crossed it before Lake Annean.

Turned west of the road onto a track then south to check out the Gabanintha Mine – which on my Hema says is abandoned though it appears to have a mining lease over it at the moment but nothing happening here. I saw it on Google Earth and it is more huge holes with ‘new hills’ around them. We turned around and headed back to where we turned off to find a camp spot.

Nice area near a ‘creek’.

Steve was collecting firewood and found a branch had two little goannas living in it. I took some photos then left them in their home.

After lunch the boys went off detecting again. I can just get reception on the phone here so will have to see how I go with uploading my blog. Just enough to get blog up, check emails and facebook.

Steve dug a hole for the firepit so Lyn and I stacked rocks around the edge then got the fire going. The boys came back empty-handed. There was a light breeze blowing from the south which brought the sound of a man talking. He was either chatting with someone that didn’t get a word in or he was on the phone. We couldn’t see any lights so will have to investigate tomorrow. Steve had seen fresh wheel tracks when he was detecting.

Just managed to get the ABC on AM radio – after fixing it we now can’t get the FM radio we had before!!
