Tues, 17th May, 2016 Bush camp, 38km SE of Meekatharra, WA (Gabanintha Mine)

7.30pm 20 degrees, light cool breeze with a few clouds.

I headed off for my walk as Steve wandered off with his detector. I heard him get a beep so walked over to see what it was. Gold!! A 0.5g little nugget. Off to a good start.

After an hour he was still gridding (going over the area in lines carefully) and he hadn’t found another thing. Amazing that little bit was just sitting there waiting for him to walk by.

I made some more Nuts & Bolts then put on a beef stew for dinner in the Ecopot. Steve came back after he had wandered off looking further afield for gold but no luck. Made some lunch then he did my hair colour.

We went for a drive with Jeff & Lyn to check out Gabanintha Mine which is near Yogahong Hill which I zoomed in on.

Passed a kangaroo or is it one of those other Euros we read about in Meekatharra.

Three big pits full of water and new hills but it isn’t been worked at the moment.

Lots of drill holes everywhere.

Next is the second pit.

It looks like they blasted but didn’t remove the dirt.

Continued around to the third pit with a big white area that looks like quartz but Steve said it is something like calcimine or something – very hard to break through he has found out.

Lots of piles of broken bottles. Headed back via an old shaft that Steve had found while out detecting.

Back to the van for a late cuppa then I rang Mum and Dad for a chat.

Got the fire going and prepared a cheese & bacon damper to have with our stew tonight. Turned out very nice.

Bit cooler tonight with a few clouds coming over.
