Sat, 3rd October, 2015 Greens Point, Sofala

A lot colder this morning, 8.4 degrees in the van and only 2.6 degrees outside. About 9am it warms up enough to get down to shorts and singlet though the breeze is still cool when you are in the shade. Got out the Phryne Fisher Mystery book of Tracy’s, for a read. It is about gold prospecting in Castlemaine and the Chinese there. Enjoyed reading my book in the sun and getting some colour back on my skin after a year covered up in jeans and jumpers.

Ben’s birthday today – will have to try and ring him.

The boys went off metal detecting at Wattle Flat where Steve found the one piece last year. I taught Leanne how to play Sequence – she got the hang of it quickly and beat me 8 to 2!!

A big bus and a van moved in beside us with a couple of kids. They are going to Bathurst too so Steve offered them the cushions from the dinette for the kids to lounge on – they thought it was great.

Up to 31 degrees today in the sun. Such a contrast with the cold nights.

After lunch I showed her Rummikub and we won one game each – not giving her more chances to flog me!! The boys got more timber – there are chainsaws going all the time here. We only have axes. Steve wanted to collect some to take to Bathurst too.

Fred and Diane, who we met on the Murray River last year, popped in for a drink. Fred has built a house in Sofala, where he was born, so they were out for the weekend. They also live in Bathurst. Great to catch up with them again. They have Craig Lowndes’ manager staying with them again this year.

Leftovers for tea around the fire watching the satellites. Looked up about 7pm tonight and saw a lot more cross over in every direction. 11 degrees outside at 8pm.

Leanne heard that the Hawthorne had won the AFL Grandfinal beating Kerry’s Westcoast Eagles – sent her a text to see she wasn’t drowning her sorrows!! She was behaving as it is her granddaughter, Eden’s, birthday tomorrow. I said to give her a big hug from me – she is such a cutie.

Put the heater on tonight and watched the movie about Steve Hawking last night – very interesting.
