Sun, 4th Aug, 2019 Bush camp on 4 Mile Common near Marble Bar, WA

7.30am 18.5 degrees, clear sky and the strong wind is blowing again.

Drove down towards the tourist attraction of Comet Mine to check out a pending lease nearby. Unfortunately it was rugged hills so didn’t detect there. We went down past the mine and followed another track. There were piles and piles of beer bottles and ring-pull softdrink cans (which are celebrating 50 years according to Facebook).

Had a cuppa at the Jasper Mine where you can dig through the piles for a piece of Jasper. The flat area in the creek that is full of coloured rock which people thought was Marble (hence the name of the town) is actually Jasper.

Tried another lease 30km north which was a Mining Centre as per Hema but it was just a couple of shafts so no joy there either.

Rebecca had rung so returned her call. She and Clive are heading off tomorrow for their month trip to Iceland. They have had a lovely time recently with both their daughters and grand-daughter visiting.

Rang Erica to see how her plans are going for coming to Cairns at the end of October. All arranged which is great.

I went out detecting where Steve had found his bits yesterday. There isn’t as many flies here which is wonderful but I keep my fly net on just in case.

A car drove past and stopped to chat with Steve. They are retired couple who are working at the roadhouse and caravan park. It is their day off and were having a drive around hoping to spot some gold. Steve showed them the bits from yesterday so they realise they won’t find any without a detector. She said the people in the van park who detect are all very secretive so she hadn’t even seen a piece of gold yet. Steve got out a bit of quartz with a spec of gold on it from his crushed rock remains and gave it to her. She was thrilled. This is why I think the gold fairies should be nicer to Steve and give him a bit nugget as he is always helping everyone else. Oh well – we will keep looking.

I came back with my 5 bits – very random but around the area Steve found his. The sharp spinifex is very nasty when it pokes in through my pants.

This tree is also very nasty has it has sharp thorns and the leaves are prickly too so they grab my hair net and make me ‘wait-a-while’ till I get it off.

After smoko the wind settled. No joy for Steve today.

Played cards again while we had drinks.

Cooling off quickly again as the sun set so closed up the van. Forecast is for 11 and 10 degrees in the early morning for the next week.

Leftovers for dinner and a couple of movies. We do live a good life.
