Sat, 27th July, 2019 Bush camp near Mosquito Creek, east of Nullagine, WA (Matthew & Wendy’s birthdays)

6.30am 12 degrees, with a thick cloud band in the north-east.

Hope Matthew is enjoying his birthday. Wendy said she had started her birthday celebrations early with yummies at work, then lunch yesterday and I suppose David will take her out somewhere nice today.

7.30am it was up to 15.3 degrees for breakfast – much nicer. No wind as yet.

Finished packing away the groceries.

A nice breeze came up as the day started to warm up. Opened up all the windows and vents – forecast is for 30 degrees all week and 14 minimum which occurs about 5am.

Steve cleaned the fridge’s jet and checked the back of the fridge for bulldust but it was all good. The fridge always struggles after a big shop and with the days getting warmer we will put the fridge fan on to help it keep things cool.

30 degrees at lunch time. Decided to do some washing as we might head off on Monday. Just after I had hung it out a willy willy came roaring straight over our van but luckily it didn’t have any dust so we just got a good blast of wind.

The area we saw burning last night seems to have taken off again so we drove back to Skull Springs Road to have a look. I didn’t have my camera – it was a spectacular sight as huge flames leapt into the air as the fire roared up the side of a hill. The wind has picked up too which is moving it quickly through the spinifex making a lot of thick black smoke.

There is another two spots to the north and west that are burning too. Apparently there are a lot of fires burning in Marble Bar.

We went back to our original scrapes and went over an area which had been burnt nearby. We had a great time for the afternoon picking up little bits.

Joined the others for drinks and a lot of laughter again.

Stayed warm for the evening then chilled off enough to close up the van as we went to bed.

NO PHOTOS TODAY.
