Mon, 4th May, 2015 Lagoons Beach Campground to Friendly Beaches Campground, Freycinet National Park

Cool morning, 13 degrees at 7.30. Clear sky again with a heavy dew on everything. Steve went over to Dave & Jenny’s to clean their fridge’s jets.

I started packing up then we had a cuppa – no rushing around here!!

Stopped at Dave & Jenny’s to exchange phone numbers and say bye. Headed south along the coast with the sea one side and mountains on the other (Douglas-Aspley NP).  At Seymour there is Long Point,

And Templestowe Lagoon.

Heading into Douglas River (another little locality) we look over to Bicheno.

Past Diamond Island where there is a resort – will come back here as you can walk to the island on low tide.

Through Bicheno, will call back to explore. I also want to do the walk to Aspley Gorge and waterhole in the Douglas-Aspley National Park – named after the two river the flow on either side of Bicheno.

Turned inland for a bit then turned off to head towards Freycinet National Park. We are staying at Friendly Beaches tonight. Stopped at the Info Hut.

Had a look around and chose our camp – we are the only ones here camping though there are a couple of people out surfing. Fabulous view looking towards Cape Toureville. Unfortunately no campfires are allowed here.

After we had set up and had some of our fresh fish for lunch, we went for a walk down to the beach. Beautiful white, squeaky sand but the rotting kelp stank!! The clouds are starting to come in.

We walked up to the rocks to watch another surfer and the beach just keeps going.

Looking back down the beach.

You can easily see our van above the shrubs.

A big wave rolled in and flowed up and around the rocks, leaving the water flow off the rock like a waterfall. Waited for ages for it to happen again to get a better photo but it didn’t!!

Back up to the road and we walked back along the other camp areas. A motorhome with two ladies pulled up in one area. Two buses with school kids and kayaks went right down the other end. We walked down the next bay just north of the main beach.

Around the point a wallaby was enjoying the fresh shoots between the rocks.

Steve went over to the rocks and a wave came around from the beach making it an island.

Further along to the end of the road, where the school group had put up all their little tents. Down through the shrubs to look further north along another long strip of white sand.

I made some Anzac cookies as Steve put out the awning etc. No TV reception here and we only get a signal on the phone when it is plugged into the big aerial. Will get another aerial and put it on the aerial so we can have it in the van too.

Steve put our chairs out on the rocks near our camp for a fabulous view over the beach while we had our sunset drinks.

Steve was giving a surfer some useful tips on which waves to catch etc – except he couldn’t hear him – Steve was the ultimate armchair surfer.

We saw a light fall from the sky about 5.30 while it was still very light – might have been a bit of that Russian spaceship that didn’t make it to outer space.

The moon was a brilliant orange and poked up over the horizon.

Then it climbed up and disappeared into a band of cloud.

The clouds have moved in and it is getting cold again. No TV reception here so listened to some CDs while I did my blog. It was leftovers tonight so Steve was on reheat duty!!

I went out to the truck to check the phone and we had two calls – one from Erica and other from Malcolm and Kerry. Rang Erica back – she was having problems with her photos on the computer. Texted Malcolm that we will ring tomorrow.
