Warm
night and it is warm already. Up early to meet Paul and Les at the Hotel for a
lift to the track in Paul’s Ford Galaxie. Lovely old girl just purred along
though she didn’t like all the extra weight!!
Set
up our chairs under the trees though a lot more people are already in our spot!!
The
boys joined us for qualifying.
Walked
over to the middle section to check out the Stihl sawing competitions. Past the
Defence Force displays.
Queensland
was versing Tasmania. He won in 22 seconds.
Bought
Dan and Jon red V8 ute t-shirts for their birthdays – will send them home with
Brian.
A
lady gave us a scratchie to win cash, a holiday or an Ipad. Steve scratched the
3 trees and could win one of those three things if we attended a seminar thing
at Glenelg tomorrow. I thought I sounded ok so signed us up. We could catch the
7.30am bus in to town then get the tram to Glenelg and be back in time for
Qualifying. Leanne said it was Time Share but the lady said it wasn’t. Got back
to Paul and Les and they both said it was Time Share too but oh well may as
well go for a ride.
Glad
we are sitting in the shade as it has warmed up a lot, supposed to get to 39
today. Back to our seats ready for the race. Zoomed in on the drivers getting
their photos taken.
Craig
Lowndes did a lap of honour for achieving 250 event rounds in V8 Supercars.
The
Stadium Trucks came on and there was an amazing crash with the truck rolling a
few times but the driver got out unscathed – he also does the drift cars.
Great
racing by the drivers with Jamie Whincup winning the first race of 125km and
then James Courtney won the second race.
After
the Utes had finished we headed over to watch the Enduro-X competition with the
boys. Was great to watch.
Headed
out through the Gold area as the track was now open so we walked along the
track. Turn 11 then Turn 12.
Across
the narrow bit to Pit Straight – zoomed in on the Pits.
Down
the straight.
Turn
1, 2 and 3 called the Chicane.
The
tyre bundle they all keep hitting.
Turns
2 and 3.
Now
down Wakefield Street section as it climbs up a bit of a rise.
Under
the bridge.
Passed
the 100 metres braking marker.
The
painted curbs that can cause problems.
Then
the cars whiz around Turn 4 then into Turn 5.
We
kept going up Wakefield Street to the Italian restaurant on the corner. Managed
to get a table as it was crowded. Very nice sweet potato wedges for entrée and
yummy pizza for main.
Kept
an eye on the time so we didn’t miss our bus. The boys got a taxi back to their
hotel. We headed off with 15 minutes to spare and when we got to the stop there
were heaps of taxis. Apparently there is a Clipsal Street Party for the next
block so we have to go up a couple of blocks to get the next bus!! Really –
just what we needed – more walking. Made it with minutes to spare.
Back
to the van for a cuppa, shower and bed. Exhausting business watching V8s.
Going
to be a hot night as it hasn’t cooled off yet, 32 degrees at 11pm.
