19
months on the road – how time flies!!
Bit
chilly this morning, 15 degrees at 8am with a fog over us but no wind. Sent
texts off to Steve and Kerry for this kind hospitality as they are very busy at
the moment.
8.30
and the fog had lifted leaving a lovely clear blue sky. Said bye to Verity.
Headed
off, heading to Parndana. Wispy clouds as we turn onto Playford Highway.
The
cyclists are out again – we first saw them in Flinders Chase National Park.
Most are over 60!!
Stopped
at Parndana where there was supposed to be free camping beside the Pub. No
longer available – now $25 per night for an unpowered site. Grabbed a couple of
buns from the bakery which is also the IGA – got the last 2 bananas – they are
still waiting for their delivery which was delayed a day as Monday was a Public
Holiday.
Decided
to head up to Stokes Bay to camp which is directly north. Lovely green pastures
on the way.
Up
and down the hills – big pine plantations here. Might be owned by the chap
making the boxes for the potatoes.
Off
the high area down towards the bay.
Nice
spot near the beach for $10/night.
Amazing
paint job in the toilets.
After
lunch I headed down to the beach to enjoy the sunshine. Certainly warming up today – so different to
the wet drizzle we had recently. Chatted with a couple from WA – they were
heading off to another camp area further along that is no good for caravans. Bit
of a rocky beach here.
Apparently
the lovely beach is through the rocks – bit like Picnic at Hanging Rock. People
go in and disappear then turn up much later with a smile on their faces!!
Got
into our togs and went off to explore. It was amazing – a tunnel through all
the big rocks.
Then
we come out to a beautiful beach with a great kids pool too.
Looking
back to where we came out through the rocks.
Rick
found an abalone on the beach then we found them attached to the rock near the
rockpool.
The
sun was lovely and hot so we headed in for a swim. Just after this photo the
wave behind hit me – a bit chilly but then beautiful once we got in.
Leanne
and Rick got in too then we chatted with other people swimming. So nice to be
swimming and the water is so clear and lovely.
Headed
back through the tunnel to camp. Steve went to the toilets and found a koala in
the tree down low right beside the toilets.
He
had enough of us so hid his face.
A
wallaby arrived for a snack.
4pm
and it is 28 degrees in the shaded van. After a cuppa we headed back to through
the tunnel to the beach to fish. Mr Koala got into a new position.
Walked
further along the beach.
I
caught a small salmon then Rick walked up with his which was a bit bigger but
we decided to let it go. A lady and her son came by so we showed him and asked
if he wanted to let it go.
We
gave up – there were more fish in the kids pool.
Rick
stayed to get rid of his prawns. We changed and grabbed our drinks to have them
down on the first beach in the BBQ shelter. The couple I chatted to before from
WA had returned to camp here as the other spot (Western River) had a school
camp there. Janet and Mick are from Carnarvon so we invited them to join us for
drinks. Rick arrived with a nice Salmon.
We
had a great afternoon chatting then a group of international backpackers
arrived to cook there dinner on the BBQ. The sun started setting.
As
I was taking the photos I saw pelicans gathering then realised Steve was down
there filleting Rick’s fish. Got the attention of a couple of tourists. The pelicans were waiting patiently.
I
walked down as the crowd grew.
Steve
chopped the fish body to feed the pelicans. One lady asked if he did this every
night!! Might be a job here!! Mr Percival was happy.
One
of the internationals asked if he could hand feed them so Steve gave him the
head. He thought it was great.
Good
catch Mr Proud.
Mr
Ponder arrived but he was too late for a feed.
Very
entertaining afternoon.
Late
dinner tonight by the time we went up from the beach. No TV reception here. All
the windows and vents open tonight.
