Wed, 23rd Mar, 2016 American River campground, Kangaroo Island, SA to Rapid Bay Campground, Fleurieu Peninsula, SA

22.6 degrees at 8am and overcast with a few spits of rain through the night. The only consistent thing with the weather down here is its inconsistency!! But it hasn’t stopped us enjoying ourselves.

Packed up and had a cuppa before heading off to Penneshaw to catch the ferry back to the mainland. Still a lovely view even though it is overcast.

Stopped at a picnic spot near Hog Bay Beach. Found another info board we missed last time we were here. It says “as you look around the sweep of the bay”, unfortunately they don’t trim the hedges so you can “look”!!

Walked down to the beach – the penguin rookery area.

The mainland and around to where the ‘Rock’ was.

Some dolphins were rounding up some lunch.

The boys walked back to the shop to get some fish and chips. I was cooking up yesterday’s catch to have with it. Unfortunately he didn’t have any King George Whiting so Rick got haddock and Steve got us calamari. Lucky we had our bit of King George to enjoy.

1pm we parked in the waiting area to board the ferry. Another load were just coming off the Sealion 2000 – it only has two lanes in the middle but double on the edge for the smaller cars.

I got the tickets then left the boys to drive on board. Watched them come in through the hole in the roof.

The guy was telling Rick to turn – oops went a bit too far – try to cuddle our van!!

Farewell Kangaroo Island – we have enjoyed our visit.

Lovely calm but drizzly crossing over Backstairs Passage. Nearly back to the mainland at Cape Jervis.

The boys were off quickly so we drove around to where I put my herb garden to see if it was still alive – unfortunately no. Off again and up the hill to 230 metres elevation.

Got to the top and we were in the clouds.

Turned off at Delamere and back down to Rapid Bay – nice and sunny here.

Not too many more here from when we left two weeks ago but it will fill up tomorrow and Friday for the Easter break. Obviously the dry side of the peninsula as the caretaker has the sprinklers going here.

Nice afternoon chatting – bit cool though.

Rang Mum and Dad for a chat then rang Suzanne to catch up.

Steve and I walked over to the jetty to try to get some squid at night. Only saw one and he didn’t want to get on the hook!!
