Overcast
and still, 22 degrees. Steve noticed a motorhome on the beachfront was the same
as the caretaker in Geeveston in Tassie so he went over and it was him. He had
suffered from cancer of the jaw and had to come back to the mainland for
treatment.
The
galahs were having a ball chewing the bits off the pines trees and were rolling
on their backs holding the sticks to chew on them – very entertaining.
Headed
off to get fuel, gas and groceries from Victor Harbour and have a look around.
Passed huge plantations of pines in the Second Valley SA Forests.
Climbed
to 360m elevation – lovely views as we went up and down the hills.
Headed
down the hill passed The Bluff then overlooking Victor Harbour.
Unusual
church building as we head into town – Newland Memorial Congregational Church,
now the Uniting Church.
Raindrops
on the windscreen mucked my photo.
Around
to the Info Centre where there is a fairground.
The
toilets have been painted telling stories of the history of the area.
Sprung
Rick!!
A
lot of houses have a great view of the bay.
Granite
Island is accessed by foot or a horse drawn carriage over the long bridge.
The
horses are rotated and well loved.
Will
have to go on it next time we are here. Leanne said there are walks on the
island too.
Walked
to the other side of the jetty for a view across to ‘The Bluff’ and all the
houses around the bay. Lots of seagrass on the beach.
The
horse and carriage slowly made its way over the bridge.
Headed
off to find the Coles Express for fuel and gas so we get our 14c/l off – saved
us $21 which is nearly a free gas bottle ($25). Nice tree-lined streets.
Decided
to get some lunch in the shopping centre before loading up with groceries.
Steve wants to shoot whoever designs shopping centre carparks – not enough room
and every man & his dog was out shopping today. I thought the shops would
be closed for Good Friday tomorrow hence it being busy but they are open from
8am to 8pm – go figure!!! Managed to get a table in a cafĂ© and had pie and
chips. Got the groceries and then headed for home.
Turned
off to check out Rosetta Head, known as ‘The Bluff’ first. Great view even on a
dreary day.
Will
be back to check out all the walks and history on a nicer day. Good whale
watching from here too.
Back
to camp for a cuppa then unload and pack away all the meat into my
vacuum-sealed bags etc. More campers have arrived. Glad we parked with our
awnings facing each other to give us some space.
Tried
ringing Dan and Jon to wish them a Happy Easter. Left a message for Dan – as
usual but Jon answered so had a lovely chat with him. He and Bandit are off to
cruise around Hinchinbrook Channel on Brian’s jetski with his mate.
Drinks
and chat watching all the parking and setting up antics till it got too cool.
