Overcast
morning with a few drops of rain. First night with all the windows open and no
blanket!!
Drove
into Esperance and parked near the boat ramp on the Esplanade where there was
plenty of car spaces for us with the van on.
I
walked over to the Post Office and collected my replacement camera and the new
burners for our stove. Steve tuned the TV and we settled in to watch the V8s
practice and qualifying in Adelaide for the Clipsal 500. Because of the
daylight saving and time difference it starts early over here. Amazing to think
we were there in person last year – how the time has flown. Leanne & Rick
are on a cruise and I texted Lou, Ian, Brian & Fozzie, rubbing it in that
we were watching it and they were working!! Great view out the window while we
watched TV.
The
clouds cleared a bit, 24 degrees. Called into Woolies for some fresh fruit and
vegies then drove 30km north to Gibson and the free camp beside the hotel.
Big
open flat paddock with a few vans here already. Being a long weekend (Monday –
Labour Day – amazing to see that Woolies etc will be closed on Monday) we are
happy to not be at the beach which should be crowded.
Steve
got TV reception so we should be good for the weekend’s racing. Chatted with a
chap beside us who has just come across the Nullarbor so will give him some free
camp tips. On the other side is a young couple from Geelong with three little kids
who are doing a lap for a year. Steve wandered off and found some others to
chat with while I put the groceries away etc.
We
are beside the Kalgoorlie to Esperance railway line where big engines pull lots
of ore laden trucks down to the docks at Esperance.
Settled
into watch TV and the reception went haywire – couldn’t get it back!! Looks
like we will be driving back into Esperance to watch the race tomorrow.
Nice
sunset colour on the clouds.
