Sun 15th Oct, 2017 Fig Tree Campground in Chapman Valley to Coronation Beach N of Geraldton, WA

7am 19.6 degrees, clear sky. Lots of tweeting birds to wake us this morning.

Headed off through the table top hills of Chapman Valley up to Nanson.

Turned west to the coast and down a steep descent to Coronation Beach and the Indian Ocean. Ran over another snake – will have to keep our eyes peeled when we are wandering.

Nice campground. Found ourselves a spot with a walk way beside us straight to the beach.

Walked down to the beach where a couple had pulled up on their 4 wheelers. Started to chat and found out the chap was from Cairns. Peter was one of the Myer family who had an engine reconditioning company and transport company in Mareeba. We had met his older brother, Eric, in Williamstown, SA last year. What a small world. Peter and Julie hit the road years ago with their two boys and ended up in Geraldton where they bought a home so their boys could do their senior schooling. They loved it so much they have stayed. They go for long drives along the beaches on their 4 wheelers and camp out overnight. They love the freedom of being able to drive on the beaches of WA.

We went back to the van and made a cuppa and joined them as they were cooking their breakfast in the shade shelter. I gave them a card and Julie took a photo to send to Eric. As we were chatting a snake slithered across the track and into the bush behind Julie. ‘Feet up’ from then on.

A chap came down with his paddleboard and dog and off they went for a paddle. Paddleboards are all the rage over here.

Said farewell to Peter and Julie then went for a walk up to the lookout. On no, stairs!!

Great view over the campground and the coast. Looks like the farmer who has the adjoining land is creating his own campground – probably to cope with the Christmas holidaymakers.

Back to the van for lunch then we walked north up the beach. Lovely temperature today but it hasn’t warmed the water – still too cold for me and the wind still has quite a nip to it.

Looks like the farmer has dug out some sandstone from here.

A lot of seagrass around as we headed north – smelly. Back to camp to catch up on my blog. The clouds are coming over and it is getting cooler. Rain is forecast for tomorrow and colder days again.

We can get TV reception but there isn’t anything interesting to watch!!
