Fri, 27th Oct, 2017 Ellendale Pool to 7 Mile Beach, nth of Dongara, WA

Slept in to 8am as it is overcast and cool, even the squawking corellas hadn’t woken us.

Jon rang about work then we rang Malcolm as he had rung last night. Planning their trip with us up the Cape next year. Gave Mum and Dad a call – she and Val had a great day out yesterday – scored a nice win.

Slowly packed up and then headed back to the highway and south to 7 Mile Beach, 10km north of Dongara. Only a small area but we found a spot on the front and parked up. Walked to the other side to read the 72hr sign (only once in 28 days). We had been told you can only spend 72hr in the whole shire but the sign only says 72hr here. A lady said she asked the ranger and he said you can only spend a week in the free camps which include a 24hr in town and a 72hr spot south of Dongara.

Cold wind blowing in but not cyclonic so we should be fine. At least there are no flies here.

A bit of weed on the beach but there a nice swim spots in between the limestone outcrops. Mind you the water is still far too cold for us.

The sky cleared and the sun managed to warm us enough for a walk along the beach as the wind has dropped. Even braved the bikini top to get a bit of a suntan. Walked south along the beach where there was a lot more seaweed.

Steve found a coral rock full of shells.

Spotted a big salmon swim by and then a couple of dolphins further out. There must be another reef further out as we can see the waves breaking over it as the tide went out.

Rang the Info Centre to see what movie is playing at their Drive-in tomorrow night. It is one of two drive-ins operating in WA. It opened in the 1960s. Unfortunately it is Captain Underpants so I don’t think we will bother. Brings back memories of Cairns Drive-in.

Jumper and long pants on again. Joined a couple from Margaret River for drinks and a chat. Others were watching the Rugby League Aust v England match.

Lovely sunset.
