Thurs, 5th Oct, 2017 Webb’s Patch Mine, 30km east of Cue to The Granites, near Mt Magnet , WA

7.45am 16.3 degrees, cold, overcast and windy.

End of detecting so I dug out my rings and bangles again. Been 5 months since I had them on.

Hooked up the van and had a farewell cuppa with Trish and Claude. Might see them later in the year. Told Trish to look out for the donkeys to get a photo and I will email her the photos I took of the camels recently.

The sky has cleared as we head into Cue. Just as we were reaching town I was watching a little bird attack a wedge-tailed eagle to one side as Steve said, “there’s and emu” on the other side. Didn’t bother to stop for a photo – have seen a few of them!!

Stopped at the revamped park in Cue – very nice. Lots of picnic table cubicles with sayings, patterns and animals cut into the metal of the walls.

Pretty kangaroo paw too.

Onto the bitumen towards Mt Magnet. Across Lake Austin area – not sure if that is water in the distance or a mirage.

There is a mining lease out in the middle of it and there are signs stating there is active mining happening there too. Spotted an excavator up on the hill.

Just before Mt Magnet we turned off into The Granites. A breakaway area that we have stopped at before. Plenty of spots to park up. We parked in an open area for lunch. Put the radio on and listened to an interesting item about sheep – the age lamb become mutton etc and how it affects prices and sales etc. Someone asked what happened to ‘haggot’ which was between lamb and mutton.

Played a few games of Skipbo – I won. Got out the maps and worked out a timetable for our trip next year. Boy will we do some miles on that one but I will be great to do all those tracks etc without the van. Will be interesting living out of the track for 5 months or so!! Especially when it is cold!!

As the sun was setting we found a great spot for the night on the top of the hill overlooking the breakaway area. (not really supposed to camp here!)

Even a pretty flower outside my door. Kept the van closed up as the wind is still cold.

Mum and Dad rang to say Dan had visited with Fran and that Dan seems very happy and Fran is a lovely lady. So glad he has found someone nice. Jon and Jess had visited the other day and they are both very happy too and looking forward to their trip to their friend’s wedding in Fiji in November.

Tom and Sandy rang – at last enough reception to chat for a bit. They will meet us at Yalgoo on Tuesday or Wednesday which will be wonderful.

Steve got some TV reception though the one we want to watch Bathurst wouldn’t connect well enough so we will still have to go into town to watch it tomorrow for practice and qualifying.

Quiet chilly night.
