7am
14.5 degrees, clear sky and still windy. Said farewell again to Tom and Sandy.
Tried
to video chat with Mum and Dad but her laptop wouldn’t work. Messaged Dan to
pop up and help her. I sent them and the boys photos of some of our nicer
nuggets. Sent off messages to Wendy Allard and to Charles for their birthdays
today.
The
wind settled as we headed west thank goodness. Across the State Barrier Fence –
then a goanna crossed the road and soon after an emu was running down beside
the road but quickly disappeared into the scrub. Long bits of straight road.
Pulled
over to let this 7.5m wide load pass.
10km
east of Pindar the cleared farm land starts. We remember when we flew over to
Perth via Ayres Rock, when Jon was racing the Aust Titles, looking over all the
wheat belt after passing over the desert.
Turned
off the main road into Pindar. Not much here except the big grain storage
sheds.
Checked
out the info boards opposite the old hotel. Pindar is the end of the Wool Wagon
Pathway from Exmouth. Another shiny metal sign that is hard to read let alone
photograph.
Interesting
info about the old hotel.
Continued
along the road – an old shed and house near ‘the Common’.
Turned
around and headed back out past ‘the Country Club’.
Followed
the ‘wreath flower’ signs to where these unusual wildflowers are growing beside
the road. Good signs all the way till we parked on a side road then they
haven’t got one showing you need to walk through the bush to the other road to
see the flowers!! We had noticed a couple walking so followed them. It is
strange they are just beside the road and not in the bush. Steve reckons
someone seeds the side of the road!! They certainly look like wreaths.
Other
pretty wildflowers are here too.
Continued
along the road edge checking out all the shapes and colours.
Crossed
over then headed back towards the truck.
Chatted
with the other couple, James and Irene, who are from the Sunshine Coast. They
were staying at a free bush camp north of Mullewa. Irene was interesting in
detecting and studying geology – that would be helpful.
We
drove up the road a bit to have lunch in the ‘camp area’ – a gravel pit off the
road. We were going to stop here but decided to go to where James and Irene
were camped instead so headed off again. Across the old railway tracks on the
west side of the grain shed in Pindar then back onto the main road.
Lots
of pretty yellow flowers here.
Into
Mullewa past the grain storage area where they were loading up some trucks.
Nice
entrance sign.
Through
town, will come in tomorrow to explore it. Back onto the dirt road again for
18km then 3.5 km down another road to a gate. A long brown snake was across the
road so we couldn’t avoid it and it went bang when we went over it. Great sign
on the gate.
More
pretty flowers everywhere.
We
parked beside the ‘Thong’ tree.
Dan
messaged me to download Skype as he has set it up on Mum’s laptop. He said it
is better than the Facebook one. There are some goats bleating somewhere so
Steve went for a wander with the camera to find them but he couldn’t. I cleaned
the freezer out and used some frozen bananas to make muffins and then baked
some Anzac biscuits.
James
and Irene came back and joined us for a drink. Steve got out the 2300 and
buried a few bits of gold so Irene could have a go. Think they will be buying
one soon!!
Tom
and Sandy rang to let us know they got home to Perth safe and sound which was
nice.
Steve
got the fire going and we chatted with the others for a while till we realised
how late it was and we had to get our roast chicken happening.
The
evening cooled off quickly after a good warm day.
