Warmer morning, only 14 degrees, yeah. Overcast like a heavy fog.
Steve coloured my hair and I got it washed so ready to head off again. I had the heater on and forgot to open the vent and I think I inhaled the fumes from the hair colour as my chest feels funny now.
Packed up and headed into town. Very still and grey at 10am. We got our gas bottle filled at Mitre 10 as Bunnings was sold out. The chap was very helpful and we chatted for a while. He has been here for 45 years and knew of Kev & Linda when they had the Yamaha shop. He gave Steve a new straw hat for detecting too.
As we came to the roundabout on Smith St we saw Mike and Anne coming around. They were trying to find the cheap fuel outlet so they followed us. Lovely to see them again. We filled up our water tanks and our buckets too to get us past the 2 weeks in Kurundi Station.
Around to Coles where Anne got some groceries. Jenny and Ron had headed out to a Coles Express so we agreed to meet them out there as it was on the way north. Met up, said our hellos and then headed northward.
They are all over the cold weather too so we all laughed as we crossed the Tropic of Capricorn, hoping for warmer weather.
The sky is clearing at last. Stopped at Warburton’s Memorial for lunch.
Continued northward with the elevation dropping now as we head north to Darwin!! (640m)
Pulled off for a quick photo of the Arrente couple at Aileron.
556m elevation at Ti Tree Roadhouse ($2.70/L). Topped up as we can’t get fuel at the station anymore. Warming up nicely and the sky is clear. More air conditioner than heater for a change.
Clouds started building as we continued northward. Anne and Jenny were commenting on the outside temperature as we drove, up to 27 degrees. Forecast for next week where we are going is 26-28 daytime and around 13 overnight which should be ok.
Cuppa at Barrow Creek Roadhouse - no band playing this time.
Lots of finches flying out of the grass by the road so we are hoping we don’t get any.
Daniel sent through a heap of photos of Sophia which was wonderful. She will be 4 months old in 2 days.
Found the rain cloud that was forecast (0-1mm) as we neared Wauchope. Just a few drops. Topped up here too, $2.79/L. Lots of travellers parked in the dirt opposite the Devil Marbles Hotel.
Continued on past the Devils Marbles. The road is wetter here.
On to Bonney Well Rest Area for the night. Lots of travellers already set up so we just pulled in below the old windmill for the night.
Mike got his firepit out and Steve found some wood.
We had drinks around the fire and sat chatting for a long while. Good start to our next adventure, detecting and fishing.
Warmer night which is wonderful.
