21-23 Oct, 2023 Jon & Annalise’s place, Cairns, Qld

Sat, 21st

Kaylene came over to get my help in starting a couple of wedding cross-stitches for some friends weddings next year.

Later we drove over to see Jakob and Annaliese and what improvements they have been doing to their home in Earlville. Annaliese is nearly finished her medical degree and is looking forward to working next year and being paid for it.

Annalise and I chatted with Jon after he finished work on video. He will be home on the 1st Nov for 2 weeks as he is now at BHP site doing water boring again up near Woomera in SA.

I had picked up a lasagne for dinner but it wasn’t that good. Luckily Annalise had made a lovely dessert.

Sun, 22nd

Kaylene rang to say Rick had called with news - not the ‘we found the mother lode’ news but sadly ‘the engine blew up in his ute’ news. Very sad for them as they hadn’t gotten all the way in during the night when they heard the engine make a funny sound. No indicators on the dash or temp gauge. They managed to limp to the Palmer River crossing hoping to get a message to their friend which they did. Steve & Rick found a leak in the heater pipe which they fixed but unfortunately the damage was done to the engine. They can still drive but very slowly. They decided to limp it back to the main road, going slowly and many stops to top up the radiator water. Got out to the Palmer Roadhouse and got phone signal to ring a tow truck who can’t come till tomorrow.

I caught up on more of my blog.

Kaylene picked me up and we met Wendy and Rebecca at Dundees on the Waterfront for lunch. Had a lovely time chatting.

Later on I rang Suzanne to catch up with her news.

Annalise cooked a lovely dinner. We played cards and chatted with Jon via video.

Mon, 23rd

Quiet morning - slowly catching up on my blog. Need to get it up to date so I can get my cross-stitches progressing for the two babies.

Rang Tuckshop to say hi to the girls.

Louis called in to pay me for the shirts we picked up for him in Bathurst. He and Glen have been flat out with all the Referendum stuff they had to supply and then they wanted them to take all the cardboard away so more driving all over Queensland.

Lovely clear blue sky today with a light breeze. Jon says he appreciates his view more now he is working away. When he comes home it is a special delight for him.

Steve and Rick arrived home.

Booked the ferry and camp sites on Fraser Island from 8th to 16th Nov. David & Wendy will come over on the 12th as they are just in their Jimny so they will stay at the resort.

Visited Daniel and Fran in the afternoon. They had a nice couple of days. They are looking forward to getting settled in their new house in a couple of weeks. Gave them Kaylene & Rick’s gift and they said Roald & Joan sent them a gift too which was so sweet of them.

Packed our bags ready for an early start tomorrow for our flight back to Brisbane. Annalise is free so she will take us in.
