Sun, 29th Oct, 2023 Roald & Joan’s place, Cooroibah to 48hr Rest Area, Maryborough, Qld

We must have had a good shower of rain during the night as everything is wet and we dumped a fair bit of water on the ground when we lowered the roof. The sun is out now though there is still a fair bit of cloud about and it is still windy!

Cuppa with Road then we headed back out. Took another way out via Pomona which is a more scenic drive though more hills to go up and down.

Back on the Motorway and headed to Gympie. The dual lane motorway finishes and we are back on the A1 but we can see progress with the new bypass.

Into Gympie where we topped up with diesel ($2.119/L) at a Liberty. Still a lot of places selling it for over $2.20. Stopped for another cuppa at the rest area where more ‘homeless’ have parked up. One chap with 4 big dogs have taken over a public shade shelter which is wrong.

Continued on through the crowded Gympie streets - they will be very happy when the bypass is finished to get quieter roads again. Just a long line of traffic as we go up and down different speed zones for road works till we eventually get to the northern end of the bypass.

New trivia question to keep us awake - What does QR stand for in QR Code - I said Qld Rail, haha. Steve said Quick Response - he was right, fancy that! Next one was name for a baby Echidna - a puggle. One more - how do you pronounce Tiaro (the next town) - we both know that as Steve’s ancestors lived there - Tie Row. Enough education for one day!

Into Tiaro for lunch in the overnight stay area then back on the road. Over the Mary River and into Maryborough. Picked up a couple of bits from the shops and David texted to see when we were arriving as the Supercars were about to start the last race on the Gold Coast. Got to their place just before the start - good timing. Nice afternoon relaxing and chatting.

Lovely dinner. Ella heading overseas with her best friend next Monday for at least a year. Will be a big adventure and life experience for them. Wished her all the best then we headed back to the 48 hour rest area in town as David doesn’t have a driveway we can fit on!!

Parked up in the dark then set up. About 10 other campers here. Played a game of 3 to Kings then read before getting into bed.
