Tues, 4th Nov, 2025 48hr RV Rest Area, Kambalda West to 72hr RV Rest Area, Norseman, WA (Golf & Norseman history)

A few drops of rain in the early hours. Min of 14 degrees and overcast.

Had a leisurely morning then continued south. Came upon a few trucks off the roadside then we realised one wagon was in pieces and there was machinery there trying to pick up the cargo etc.

Continued onto the Coolgardie/Esperance Road and on to Widgiemooltha to play our first hole as part of the Nullarbor Links - Longest Golf Course (we don’t do the actual golf courses as we are just amateurs). We played when we came across in 2016. This one is new as it replaces the Fraser Range one.

Had a cuppa then got out our 2 clubs that Margaret gave us with a bucket of balls. I got some tees from Jon too so we are all set. Sent the photos to Jon too so he can have a laugh at his parents. He is the only one that took after his Granma Erica in playing golf.

We had a good laugh then played it again and improved our score 5 for me and 7 for Steve as he got cocky near the hole but then missed it. Still overcast and cool.

Continued south, haven’t driven this bit of road since 2016 when we first came to WA. Passed another big salt lake - Lake Cowan with the rail line beside us and a island.

Further along we met the lake again and crossed it on a causeway.

Into Norseman then around to the golf course. No one here so we got out our clubs and played the two holes here.

I had a restart on the second one as my ball went in the wrong direction!

Steve did very well to start but fell apart at the hole. I won’t write what our score was but we laughed a lot!! Lots of nasty prickles here so had to pull them out of my shoes before we left. Steve didn’t have any in his shoes - harder soles.

Around to the 72hr rest area - bays marked off too which is a good idea. Chose a spot and set up then had lunch.

Went for a walk into town and saw the camels we remember from our 2016 visit here. Just looked back at all the photos I took then but I took these plaques again.

Lovely roses.

In 2020 artist, Brenton See, has done another beautiful mural on the side of the Woodland Centre.

Went into the courtyard and found another mural and lots of metal cut-outs.

Inside the helpful staff gave us all the necessary info for our trip on the Eyre Highway across the Nullarbor Plain and into SA. Bit of info about Norseman on the wall.

Wandered through the art gallery next door. There were some amazing photographs. Mr Thorny Devil on the outside.

This is an old mural - I took it in 2016.

Walked down the main street and found some great photos and another mural.

Turned around at the Norseman Hotel.

A lot of empty shops. The houses are mostly well kept. Another wall decorated with pictures.

I gave old Norseman a pat. No gold left in his hoof though.

A couple of pretty murals as we continued along.

In a park we found an info board.

Headed back to the camper for a cuppa. Dark clouds are building in the NW.

Realised it is Melbourne Cup Day. Shane & Doreen are there. I went with the girls in 2014. Nice to see that the winner, ‘Half-Yours’ was an Aussie horse, trained by Aussies and the jockey was a woman. Well done.

Realised it was Paul and my cousin Pete’s birthdays too so sent them off messages for a happy day.

A few drops of rain in the afternoon. Drinks and cards inside.

Using up the rest of Steve’s data by using our Chrome Cast to watch some shows.
