7am
20.8 degrees, a bit of mackerel cloud coming over from the south-west.
By
8am it was all clouded over and looked a bit heavy. The weather forecast was
for rain below us so hopefully we will be ok.
We
drove back to where Jeff found his gold yesterday so I could do it with the
2300 but Jeff had done a good job and I only found two bits of rubbish.
It
is lovely country to look at with its various colours.
Went
down to see Alan, the 4-wheeler chap, but their camp was empty. Some big
anthills, though not as big as the Cape York ones.
Back
to the van for a cuppa and then I went wandering across the flats again. I got
3 bits again in a patch and then as lunch was calling my name, I got one more.
Will have to come back and grid it properly. Got my 1 gram for the day so I am
happy.
Jeff
came back from his drive and had a lovely 2.2 gram piece that was sunbaking –
he got the signal thinking it was rubbish then he looked down to scrap the
ground with his boot and there it was laying there.
Steve
had been digging up bits around camp and got a little nuglet but that was all.
I didn’t get a photo of it but it weighed 0.33 – he is feeling a little down
but happy that I am keeping the tally going.
After
lunch Jeff headed into Nullagine. I put a stew on so Steve went for a climb up
the hill beside us to check out a cave at the top. He took the camera – great
view from up there.
The cave was small and looks like some birds use it.
Interesting
rock formations too.
We
went for a drive looking for phone signal. They boys had got a signal on a hill
nearby but it isn’t there now. Stopped at the bore and filled up the back tanks
and containers so I can do some washing etc. Drove back down the road to the
airstrip but no signal there though there was a van with its aerial up. As we
headed back the van owners came past so we chatted with them. They said to
drive up further past their van onto the rise and hey presto we got a signal. Lost
it again as we went further up the hill – go figure. Got a text from David
& Majella so rang them back. They are heading back to Qld on Monday after
getting 3 ounces from Marble Bar!! I wonder if they left any for us. He said
their friend was having problems with his 7000 so he set up with his settings
and the chap came back with a half ounce nugget!!
Rang
Mum and Dad and sent a text to the boys about our limited phone reception. I
put the kettle on while Steve rang Rick to ask about his mate’s gold spots over
here, then I chatted with Kaylene.
Cooler
day with the overcast sky and wind but still nice. Stopped to chat with some
other detectors on the way back then headed up a track on the other side of
Mosquito Creek and found another couple with their dog, Boss.
Back
to camp and Jeff had just got back from town. Got the fire going even though it
was still windy but it is all burnt around us so we can’t set anything alight!!
A
few drops of rain hit the van about 10pm and it was still windy so all the windows
are closed again!!
