7.30am
19.5 degrees, overcast and windy.
Jeff
headed back towards the gully he found gold in yesterday. Steve went walking
further around the hills near our camp. I went back to my new patch and walked
over it dragging my chain and only found one more piece – nice size though,
0.46 grams.
The
couple from yesterday, names both start with R, Rod an Robyn I think, stopped
by and invited us for a drink with the other Qlders (the ones near the
airstrip). Steve didn’t find anything and Jeff hadn’t come back for lunch. We
headed off for a drive to Millionaire’s Gully. Passed the old mining camp of
Eastern Creek Mine.
Passed
the tailings piles and dam but couldn’t find the old shafts – probably filled
in now.
Checked
out Millionaire’s Gully – will come back tomorrow, though it looks like
everyone has been here before us as there are holes everywhere. Continued on
along the track to find the GPS spot from Doug Stone’s book where someone found
a 460g nugget. Unfortunately there weren’t any more nuggets for us. Still very
windy but they have blown the clouds apart so we have some sunshine now.
Drove
up beside a gully and startled a Bustard. Detected the gully area but only
found rubbish and Steve found lots of detector holes up the top – some were
quite deep.
Continued
around the track till we crossed over Mosquito Creek again and passed two
caravans but no one was around. Turned down a track to check out an old
trommell.
Back
down the track beside the creek to join the others for a drink. Ray and I
missed her name (getting slack), lived in Emperor Street at Woodgate and play
bowls so walk past Erica & Terry’s place. What a small world.
Headed
back to camp to get the fire going so I can do a potato bake in the camp oven.
Jeff was back with his haul of gold – he is doing well.
Still
quite windy though the sky is clear and the stars are shining brightly. Spotted
a few satellites.
