Sat, 30th July, 2016 Bush camp, Mosquito Creek Goldfields, NE of Nullagine, WA

7am 16.1 degrees, clear sky and no wind.

Drove out to where Jeff has been detecting to try our luck. I found one little bit on some scrapes then Jeff arrived. The chap who has been working this area over thoroughly arrived so we chatted with him for a bit – Ziggy who is Austrian. He has been here 10 weeks and has 9 ounces!! He works two detectors, the 5000 first then goes over the area with the 2300 and gets all the little bits, mind you Jeff has found some he has missed. We drove further along and I tried some scrapes and got another bit which was a bit bigger than the first. Steve found a rock which sung loudly.

He hit it with a hammer and there was gold inside in the quartz.

Continued on and I got two more bits getting bigger each time. Steve found a small and larger nuglets and then we headed back. Found some more holes in the rocks.

We drove back towards Ziggy’s camp and stopped in to say how we did. He said he found another patch and had gotten 29 nuglets!!

Stopped off at Rob and Robyn’s for a chat – they invited us for drinks tomorrow. Found out it is Robyn who leaves the smiley faces on their golden holes.

Did the weigh in – amazingly my 4 bits made a gram.

Steve’s two bits was exactly a gram and a few bits of the quartz and gold came to 2 grams so with the bits in the dish he probably has 2 grams of gold when you take the quartz away. Not a bad day.

Certainly warming up during the day as the wind has died right off. Jeff came back with some more nice bits so he is happy too.
