7am
16.6 degrees. Jeff was off again early.
We
put out the awning again and the shadecloth to protect the van from the
afternoon sun as it is getting quite hot during the day. Still cool at night
though – still in the long pjs and under the blankets. I put on a stew for
tonight.
We
drove to some areas nearer to camp but didn’t have much luck. Steve got two
bits in a gully straight off then nothing. I only one one little bit on some
done over scrapes that the previous person missed right beside one of their
holes.
Back
to the van for afternoon smoko – 33 degrees in the van with the vents and
windows open. We filled up the bush shower and had a lovely wash – hope no-one
drives by!!
Grabbed
our water buckets and our drinks and headed down to the bore to top up our
water before heading round to Robert & Robyn’s for drinks. They had two
couples from Albany arrive and there were two other chaps so we had a great
time chatting. Jeff arrived too after stopping off for a chat with Ziggy and
his friends at their camp up the road. The chap who owns the mining lease at
Quinns where we were also has one at Ruby Well near Peak Hill. He has just dug
up a 30 tonne specimen that is full of gold!! Now that would be something to
see.
Still
30 degrees in the van at 7pm and it is very still. Such a lovely night to be
outside under the stars.
9pm
the wind picked up a bit and Steve commented ‘see I said the wind would pick up
again because we put the awning back out’!! We probably should have taken it
down as the wind got wilder as the night went on. I went outside to see if
clouds had come over but it was still a clear sky. In the south there was an
orange glow and smoke so a big fire somewhere. The fire over at Lindons was
still burning so with this wind it will probably go nuts.
