Fri, 29th July, 2016 Bush camp, Mosquito Creek Goldfields, NE of Nullagine, WA

7am 15.4 degrees, clear sky.

Jeff headed off early again. I gave Steve a haircut then we headed back to the dozer pushed area just in case there I left any yesterday. I only found 3 more little bits and lots of rubbish. Steve didn’t get anything so we headed off along another track towards Eastern Creek Road (heads to Eastern Creek Mine). Interesting drive up and down the hills – spotted a hole in the rock high on the hill and zoomed in.

Down to Cookes Creek again which we ran beside for a while before crossing it. Stopped in the river for lunch!!

Continued on past a little van parked under a tree. Followed the Eastern Creek Road back to the Mosquito Creek Road then back along a bit and turned off into the Skull Springs Road. Spotted a van and someone detecting so headed over to have a chat. After chatting for a bit the lady came over and we learnt their names, Paul and Brenda. Steve put two and two together and realised Paul was the chap who has written a few books on detecting in WA and Brenda writes articles for Gold, Gem & Treasure magazine. They said this area was called Lindon’s West and there were heaps of vans here till just the other day. We were trying to find Lindons off Doug Stone’s map but he doesn’t put in very good descriptions of the road etc. Apparently Lindons is huge and there is a West, East and South 1, 2 and 3.

We drove down towards the East section and pulled off to try detecting. No gold but did get some photos of these cute spinifex pigeons.

Spotted a fire burning in the distance – someone is being naughty and burning off the spinefix. Found another spot where a bulldozer had pushed out a creek but only got old-timer’s rubbish. We hadn’t seen another other vans but someone must have lit that fire.

We found another spot to detect and have a cuppa. Steve got one bit on the road and I got a signal in someone’s hole and pulled out a little nuglet.

Headed back to camp. My big haul came to 0.66 grams and Steve’s one nuglet weighed 0.21 grams – didn’t get out 5 grams today!

Steve put up the bush shower so I could wash my hair using the bore water. Then he found the camera!!

There was no wind and the shower was so lovely we heated up some water and had our showers outside as Jeff hadn’t come back yet. Steve threatened to get the camera again but he knew I would just delete them!!

The sun had set and we discussed how late we would wait if Jeff didn’t come back. Luckily we heard him coming – he had a flat tyre which held him up. He had another good day getting a few specimens and 6 grams of gold. He said the German chap that was working out there was using a 2300 and needed 5 grams to reach his total of 8 ounces for 10 weeks!! We will head out there tomorrow and see if there is anything left for us.
