Tues, 10th Sept, 2019 Peace Gorge picnic area, near Meekatharra to Housesit for Mickey and Chris, Sandstone, WA

7.30am 19.3 degrees, clear sky and no breeze.

Sent birthday messages to Ian and Louis. Louis is 60 today.

Into Meeka to the park to wait for Tom and Sandy to come in from the lease.

Had a great time catching up with them over lunch at the pub.

Grabbed a couple of vegies etc then headed to Sandstone. Clouds are starting to appear in the south.

Two emus decided to play chicken on the road but Steve slowed down till they decided which way they wanted to go.

The road was really good. Three vehicles called us up on the UHF as the dust was just sitting behind us and they wanted to overtake. Makes it much easier to know they are there so we can just pull aside and they could whizz up past us. One guy thanked us and asked where we were headed then offered Steve a beer when we got there as he was heading to Sandstone too.

Pulled into Outback Accommodation which Mickey and Chris own – 6 units, pool, lovely green grass and a big shed beside their house.

We laughed when we saw the chap, who had said he would buy Steve a beer, was parked there and staying the night. He worked for the Mines Dept. Steve declined the beer.

Had a great time catching up with Mickey and Chris over drinks. Diesel and Saffron, their dogs, were happy to see us too. We will look after them for two days while Mickey and Chris go to Wiluna. It is amazing how things work out. I rang to check we could come down early as originally Mickey wanted us here from Sunday. She was very happy as they now had to go to Wiluna for an overnight and now they don’t have to worry about the dogs or the rooms etc. They are agents for Toll/Ipec too and can send items for free, so we can send the fridge to Perth using their account which is wonderful.

BBQ dinner. Steve saw something behind the BBQ and realised it was a snake. Chris dealt with it, luckily it was only a Stimson python but you don’t want to take any chances as they have some very nasty snakes around here. We laughed as one crawled under Steve’s chair on the first night here last year!

Lots of drinking while we chatted the night away. All the windows and vents open on the van as it was still 28 degrees at 10pm.
