Wed, 4th Sept, 2019 Bush camp on Koonmarra Station to Bush camp on Belele Station, west of Meekatharra, WA

7.30am 13.2 degrees, clear sky and very windy. The wind blew all night.

Packed up – the wind is very cold – hard to put my flanny on. You would think it was winter not the being of spring.

Drove back out to the bitumen that didn’t last for long. As we headed south there were sections of bitumen then dirt. Passed two groups of about 6 wedge-tailed eagles hanging around dead roos. They are so slow taking off you have to be careful.

Stopped at another Kingsford Smith Pathway sign about the old stock route.

I downloaded a map of the WA pastoral leases.

Passed a lot of cattle on the side of the road – no ear tags. Drove through Belele Station homestead area which was on the west side of the road and the old shearing shed and quarters was on the east side. This station has been given back to the aborigines – doesn’t look like anyone is around so we continued on.

Turned onto a track and headed west to our next detecting spot. Lots of white quartz around. We found a spot next to a quartz blow which has lots of goanna holes around it. Set up camp then had lunch. Only 22 degrees due to the cold breeze.

Went for a wander around camp and found some old shallow workings and a shallow shaft but only found rubbish.

The cold wind is not very pleasant so we read for a while went we had our cuppas then played Skipbo over drinks.  Too cold to sit outside in the wind which has picked up again.

Dinner and movies as usual. The van is still closed up and it is only 18 degrees when we went to bed. Heard some curlews calling too which reminded me of home.
