Fri, 22nd Nov, 2024 Betty’s Beach camp area, east of Albany, WA

15 degrees min though it warmed up with the sun shining through the few clouds. Still windy.

Went fishing for an hour but only got a few skippies.

Worked on my blog after morning tea.

Steve wandered over to chat with one of the salmon hut owners. His grandfather was one of the original ones and the one who still holds the salmon licence is 78 to he isn’t sure how much longer they will be able to keep the huts. It is hard to get enough family to help out in the 3 month same season now and it’s not that profitable.

After lunch we headed back to the beach with our rods but we were a bit early for the tide change and nothing was happening not matter how much burley Margaret spread. Eventually we got a couple of good size herring and one skippy! Boy that herring just grabbed the line and tugged, gave me a start but I got him in. Margaret says they are terrible at throwing the hook just at the bank.

It got to 26 degrees today.

Sat outside for drinks by the salmon hut in the sunshine but the heat quickly disappeared as the sun went down behind the hill. Inside to continue chatting then Margaret cooked fish and chips for us all - yum.
