Woke to the sound of light rain on the roof. Min of 24 degrees so didn’t cool off much.
Packed up and thanked Lee-Anne at the office. Drove around to the house and said bye to Daniel. Hopefully we will catch up with them in a few months time.
Back to the highway through another shower of rain. Onto a back road inland then south to Walkaway. We had explored all this area in Oct 2017. Across a dry section of the Greenough River then passed a big wind farm. Not many turbines rotating at the moment. Along the edge of the Greenough River then across the low causeway where a bit water is flowing downstream from Ellendale Pool.
Onto the gravel track to the campground area by the pool with the lovely escarpment on the other side. We had a few days here last time. We found a spot to park up further along from a van already set up.
The couple were packing up and chatted to us for a bit. They were from Geraldton and had a few days here with their granddaughter and were heading home.
I had photographed the info last time so I just took a couple this time.
Walked up to the top camping area and then a shower of rain fell so a quick wet walk back to the camper.
After the couple left we decided to move closer to the water just as another van drove in. I chatted with them as they looked for a spot while Steve was bringing the camper to our new spot. Deb and Daryl are from Hervey Bay and decided to park a bit further over. The sky has cleared now.
Set up beside the bollards with a nice view out the kitchen window of the water. We are in for a couple of 45 degrees on Mon & Tues so we figure this is a good place to hang out for a while.
After lunch I looked at the photos from 2017 when we camped here and we are in the same spot. We didn’t swim last time as the water edge was muckier but there is a nice sandy section to get in so we might have dip on the hot days. It had a couple of good flushings last year. Daniel said the water is very deep against the escarpment wall.
Put on our boots and went for a walk upstream as we hadn’t done that previously. Got to a fence line so that was the end of the walk for us. The pool has a lot of weed here.
Back to the campground and onto the track along the downstream side. Two walls of escarpment then lower hill area till we got to the end of the track. A ’28’ sat still long enough for a photo.
We found another track back and then up onto the road. Continued along the road. Checked out a couple of pull off areas and another ‘camp’ area.
Back out to the bitumen and down to the causeway. We can see the end of the pool and lots of weeds here with a narrow area that the water is flowing through and under the causeway.
It continues down as a narrow stream through lots of rocks and trees.
Headed back the 1.5km to the camping area. Nice view of the escarpment.
Had a frozen icy-pole and read our books in the shade of the camper with the strong gusty wind shaking the trees.
After a cuppa I did some baking then it was drinks time. Deb and Daryl joined us and we chatted the afternoon away. They are on their way north so I gave them some ‘must see’ ideas for their travels.
Another couple with a roof-top camper pulled in beside the BBQ shelter which Steve was going to cook dinner on. He chatted with them for a while - from Gold Coast but have just finished 2 years working in Bunbury Hospital so sightseeing on their way home.
Had to close up the camper as the wind is still blowing and quite cool - well for us it is!
Quiet evening.
