Sun, 19th Jan, 2025 Ellendale Pool Campground (Greenough River), south-west of Geraldton, WA

Min of 22 degrees but by 8.30am it has climbed to 34 degrees. Clear sky and the wind is back. We knew there was a couple of hot 40 degrees days coming, hence we decided to stay by some water.

Went for our walk again. Couldn’t believe our eyes when we saw McDonald drink containers on the road just after the other campers had left - so disgusting. There are plenty of bins about the campground. We picked them up and put them in the bin when we got back.

Into our togs - definitely need a swim today. It is lovely and cool even with the hot wind blowing.

I went back in and got the camera for a selfie and some photos of the area.

I wonder when that rock will end up in the water.

A couple of vehicles came in - had a swim and left again. We read for awhile outside in the shade of the camper as it is cooler than in the camper! Back in for another dip.

Got to 42 at midday. The wind lessened and clouds are coming over.

We watched a group of aborigines arrive and sprinkle sand in the water to let the ‘snake’ know that they are visiting then they all got in and had a ball. It was nice to see the respect but a bit later they were up on the cliff throwing rocks down into the water and writing their names into the sandstone on the edge of the water - oh well!

We went in and out to keep ourselves cool. There were a lot of dogs today so we only went in when they got out. They climbed up higher to jump off. One said there was a higher bank they used to jump off but it has collapsed now. Got some action shots.

Unfortunately they dug up the mud off to one side so our ‘fishtank’ was a murky mess by the time they left. It was funny listening to the dog owners complain about the stink of the mud and that the fish are biting them as they stood around in the shallow with their dogs!

Darker clouds came over in the late afternoon and we saw a half rainbow in the east.

Cooked up one of the crays that Daniel & Lee-Anne gave us to have as entree. May as well use the BBQs provided here though Steve had to clean it after the dog people had left it dirty after their sausage cook-up.

Six cormorants swam back after all the noisy crowd had left and settled in on the dead trees on the other side.

7pm it was still 36 degrees. Later on there was lovely sunset colours in the clouds.

The stars were out when we went to bed - peaking through the branches of the tree we are hiding under.
