Sat, 18th Jan, 2025 Ellendale Pool Campground (Greenough River), north-east of Dongara, WA

Min of 20 degrees, gusty cool breeze from the south-east and a clear sky. No phone reception except for a couple of moments during the early hours when a couple of texts came through. Will put the aerial on the camper and see how that goes.

Steve read a paragraph from his book that said ‘like the scene in Psycho where Janet Leigh was stabbed behind a shower curtain’ - we both laughed as we watched ‘Hitchcock’ last night and it was about the making of Psycho.

We went for a walk out to the bitumen and back and then out again so we did 5km.

Back for a cuppa by the water watching the fish in the shallows - like a fish tank. There are lots of perch all eager for any morsel that falls in the water - like Steve’s Anzac cookie! A long thin lizard came running past on his hind legs - stopped, wobbled his head then took off again.

Caught up on my blog and Steve read - I will never catch up to him.

More people arrived and by lunchtime the place was buzzing. Lots of paddle boards, floaties and everyone jumping off the rock face across from us. Very entertaining watching them all.

The wind stopped and the temp climbed to 35 by 1.30am. Still ok for us so we didn’t bother going for a swim. The wind then changed direction and it came in very strong gusts bringing the cooler air from the coast so the temp dropped a bit.

Chatted with some locals who said there is a cave under the cliff and it is very very deep. The level doesn’t change much so it is probably kept topped up by the water table/spring.

Eventually everyone left except for a few campers so all quiet again.
