17.7 degrees min, clear sky and light easterly breeze at 7am.
Packed up and headed back to Geraldton to meet up with Mel and Sandra at Dome Cafe. Found a nice seat outside looking at the sea which is lovely and blue this morning. Lovely time catching up after 8 years. We had met in Marble Bar in 2016. We had tried to see them another time but they were working the grain season when we came through and weren’t in town. Hopefully it won’t be so long till we see them again.
Drove out to Point Moore with its big lighthouse to have lunch by the beach. Unfortunately the wind has come up so we stayed in the camper or our lunch would have blown off the plate.
Along the road then onto the Brand Highway and headed south. Turned off to Cape Burney where the Greenough River reaches the Indian Ocean. Well, not today as it is land locked.
Pulled into the Double Beach Van Park to see if Daniel and Lee-Anne were still there. Steve met Daniel north of Cue years ago when I was back in Cairns for a visit. Then in 2022 we bumped into him and Lee-Anne north of Meekatharra and they said to come and stay anytime. They were run the park and were in the office so we chatted for a while and then Lee-Anne showed us a spot to park up.
Set up then went for a walk through the park to the beach. All the buildings etc have been decorated.
Up to Lal’s Lookout with nice seats and little sculptures.
Nice view north along the beach.
Down the track to the river and around the edge towards the ocean.
Across the wide sand separating the river from the ocean.
Along the edge of the smelly sea-grass to the point which I presume is Cape Burney.
No signs here. Walked out onto the point - looking further south the back to the township.
Wandered along the street checking out some of the older homes then back to the park entrance.
Back to the camper for a cuppa. Leanne rang to wish us a happy new year and see if we wanted to do any free guided tours when we are with them in Brisbane at the end of Feb. She has done them and they are great so I said to chose which ones she things are best. They are staying in the same hotel as us too so we will have great time.
Relaxed for a while and then Daniel and Lee-Anne joined us for drinks. Never ending job here. They gave us a frozen cray too as they have their pots off the beach to the north and go out early in the morning to check them before the wind gets up. Still very windy now and quite cool. They invited us to stay another day so we could have a BBQ dinner together tomorrow night. Lee-Anne said the river water met the sea after rain water flowed down in June then again in August so it gets a good flush-out. The catchment area is around Yalgoo.
Said our goodnights as it was getting chilly outside. Very quiet park. There are a lot of permanents around the outer edge and the travellers have plenty of spots and there are cabins too.
