Wed, 20th Aug, 2014 Canoona Goldfield (north of Yaamba) to Yeppoon

Another cool morning 11.2 degrees – not sure how we are going to go in the colder places – more clothes!!!  Went for another exercise walk – getting into 2 half hour ones each day. Evicted 2 geckos (not us) who had moved in under the front awning. Packed up and on the road again to Yeppoon.

Navigator failed a 2nd time (3 strikes and I will be walking) as I forgot to write down the address of the van park I had booked us into 6 months ago. But I found the Information Centre, got directions and with a dodgy u-turn in a carpark we found the park. Right on the beach so after we settled in and had lunch, we had another big walk on the beach.

Sightseeing was next as, 32 years ago we visited the Singing Ship at Emu Park with Steve’s parents – all of us crammed in the old Landrover!!! On the way though we checked out Wreck Point, the harbour to see where to catch the ferry to Great Keppell Island. We went there 31 years ago for our honeymoon – won’t mention the memories!!! There was a big Osprey nest on a tower with chicks. Climbed up a mountain to see Pebbly Beach (which was all rocks) then up the other side to Double Head lookout – worth the walk but note to self – put in the walking shoes, not thongs!! There were amazing rock formations from volcanoes, called fan rocks. Then we climbed the Bluff to Turtle & Ritamata lookouts. Hanging out for a coffee – even thought we could raid the “coffee jar” but by the time we got to Emu Park and saw the Singing Ship, the coffee shops had closed. The Ship was quietly singing with the cool breeze. It was built to honour Cook’s naming of Keppel Bay. Found a shop built like a whale at Kemp Beach. Need to start a file on “the Big things around Aust”.
