Mon, 16th Oct, 2017 Coronation Beach, N of Geraldton, WA (38 months on the road & Oakabella haunted Homestead)

8am 21.2 degrees, cloudy with spits of rain and very windy. Slept well with the sound of the ocean though we had been up at 4.30am to roll the awning in when the wind picked up. So much for a nice time at the beach – I won’t get my suntan back at this rate.

Watched Sunrise – got the Cash Cow code word. $20,000 would be very nice. Lots of rain on the east coast. They forecast we will get 5mls and the Qld coast 50 to 100mls.

Good internet service so I uploaded my blog. Steve put in some screws to hang our new solar light off over the kitchen bench and do some other maintenance – always something to do.

Played a game of 3 to Kings – Steve won.

After lunch we drove up to the other lookout – sun came out as I took the photo. The sky isn’t blue – just dark clouds!!

Back to the highway then we turned off to the site of a railway siding township called Howatharra.

Further north to Elephant Hill Lookout. It does look like an elephant laying down with his trunk and feet extended. The bare bit is his ear. Then Kings Table Hill and then west again to Table Hill – original names!!

Continued down the dirt road to Oakabella Homestead.

The lady who owns it now also runs a cafĂ© and tours of the homestead. When I asked about the ghosts she gave me these articles to read. She had dreamt of this house as a child then came here with her friend whose family have owned it for years. She felt the spirits and asked to stay and do the place up. Lots of people have ‘felt’ the spirits over the years.

The sheds etc are open for free but the tour of the house was $10 each. We went for a wander around the area. Looking over the farm area – Alan’s family still run the farm and live on the hill in the distance.

The old shearing sheds and then the kitchen which was separated from the main house – in case of fires in the kitchen.

Peered in one of the 13 rooms of the house.

The back garden had the solid wall fence with a nice view over the land.

Huge Jade tree – lots of good luck there.

Into the kitchen which has lots of old things. Very drafty too especially with this strong wind blowing.

The barn had unusual corners. Peered in the window.

Wandered around the shearing shed and stables. Bits of old machinery to check out.

1912 6 foot horse-drawn Sunshine Harvester – last of the wooden frames.

View back over the shed to the barn, kitchen and main house.

We decided not to do the tour. Interesting artwork – 4 emus in a boat near the campground.

Followed another dirt track back to the main road then headed back to camp. Lots of bob-tailed skinks warming themselves on the track and then a big one was on the bitumen going down to camp. We stopped to make sure he got off the road but he got angry and hissed at me when I told him to get off the road!! Then he stuck out his tongue – really, I was just trying to stop him from being run over!!

Back to the van for a cuppa and more blogging and TV for Steve as the wind howled outside but at least the sun is shining now.

Didn’t last for long as another scud of rain came over. I looked up just in time to see a pig run by our van. I grabbed the camera and went after him. Spotted him over at another van but he spotted me and started to run up into the bush. Fancy that!!

More rain showers coming over so we settled in for a few games of Skipbo – I won this time.

Found some good programs on TV and had a quiet evening.
