Sun 28th July, 2024 Gravel pit off Elsey Cemetery Road, south of Mataranka to King River Rest Area, south of Katherine, NT

Light shower of rain early in the morning. Min of 20 degrees.

Overcast and cool breeze at 7.30am with all the windows open.

Back to the Stuart Highway and headed back through Mataranka and continued northward to the King River Rest Area where we have stopped before. Plenty of room and big water tanks and picnic huts and even a dump point. The river is further up the road.

We chose a spot - recently been burnt around here so at least we don’t have to worry about snakes in the grass.

Still cloudy but there is a strong wind blowing which is moving them on. We got out the washing machine and used our water and a bit from the water tank to get all cleaned up again. Plenty of trees to tie our clotheslines to. Steve used the washing water to give the camper and truck a tub too.

More travellers arrived in the afternoon. The door latch and Cummins spare parts have arrived so we will pick them up in Katherine tomorrow and stock up on food, fuel and water before our trip into Gove on Thursday. The others decided to stay at a van park with power and a swimming pool to try and acclimatise to the sudden change in the temperature - we think it’s just perfect.

Phone service was hit and miss but I got some messages and some lovely photos of Sophia from Daniel who was feeling much better today after her needles yesterday.

Amazing how many people travel with dogs - one couple had 3!

Lots of birds about and the road noise settled down in the evening.
