Wed, 14th Aug, 2024 Manyimi Campground, Gove Boat Club, Nhulunbuy, NT

Clear blue sky again. 21 degrees.

The others headed off fishing. I got my sheets in the wash - time to take the flannelettes off and put the cotton ones on.

Our financial adviser is ringing this morning for our yearly chat. Things are going well.

Started packing up our home. Steve packed the fishing gear away as we won’t go out again and then he could repack the back of the truck. I looked into flights home for March next year for the grandkid’s 1st birthdays.

After lunch we drove down to the airport to check out the WW2 relics there that David had mentioned yesterday in a text. Fully fenced area but I got a few photos and zoomed in on the information. Now I know how Gove got it’s name - Flight Sgt William J H Gove, killed in 1943 in a mid-air collision. Interesting boat - it could be transported easily as it was two separate hulls that are joined together. Sent photos to David as he hadn’t been here since 1990s when he was in Darwin. They had flown in on a caribou going across to Wessell Islands to do some fishing!

Another burn off happening - the area has had fires burning for a while now.

As we headed back we slowed as we crossed the rise over the conveyor belt so I could get a couple of photos. Drive straight down there and you come to where we cross under it to get to the Boat Club area.

Closer to town - great view down the power line to the water of Melville Bay.

Back into town to fill up with diesel and put some more air in the tyres ready for the camper to go back on.

Washing all dry and packed away and beds remade. Cleaned the floor etc so we all ready.

The fishermen came back with a few more. Mike caught a Barramudi but it was only 500mm so had to let it go (560mm min size) but he got a good photo. They only got 1 mackerel and a coral trout, Ron & Jenny got a good sized Queenfish and a couple of salmon.

Finished the day with the same, drinks, dinner and movie.
